Roe to the rescue! Skyler Samuels<\/strong><\/a> has big shoes to fill as the title character on the revived Hallmark franchise Aurora Teagarden<\/em> Mysteries<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n In March, Samuels, 29, was announced as the new Aurora Teagarden<\/a> for the upcoming Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Something New <\/em><\/a>film following Candace Cameron Bure<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s exit from Hallmark Media on year prior.<\/p>\n \u201cOur viewers have been waiting for more adventures with Aurora and her friends,\u201d Development Manager of Programming at Hallmark Media Emily Merlin <\/strong>said in a statement at the time. \u201cWhat better way to do that than to take them back to when the young, amateur sleuth was just coming into her own? The Aurora Teagarden<\/em> franchise is a fan favorite and we\u2019re excited to share this new chapter with viewers<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n The Switched Before Birth<\/em> actress confirmed her casting that same month via social media. \u201cSurprise \u2026 I\u2019m the new Aurora \ud83d\udc81\u200d\u2640\ufe0f\ud83d\udd0e\ud83d\udcdd,\u201d Samuels captioned a March Instagram snap<\/a>. \u201cSo excited to be joining the mysterious and fun world of Aurora Teagarden<\/em>. Let the mystery solving begin!\u201d<\/p>\n The recast came as a surprise to some viewers after original lead Cameron Bure, 47, announced in April 2022 that she was leaving Hallmark for Great American Media<\/a>. (The competing network, helmed by former Hallmark boss Bill Abbott<\/strong><\/a>, launched in fall 2021.)<\/p>\n At the time, Hallmark Media told Us Weekly<\/em> in a statement that the company had \u201cenjoyed over 10 years of collaboration with Candace. We respect her decision and thank her for her many contributions.\u201d<\/p>\n Those accolades include 18 Aurora Teagarden<\/em> films for Hallmark Movies & Mysteries<\/a>. The last of her mystery projects, Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Haunted by Murder<\/em>, was released in February 2022 and costarred Cameron Bure\u2019s daughter, Natasha Bure<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n While a Hallmark spokesperson confirmed to Us<\/em><\/a> in April 2022 that the network \u201cwill air existing [Aurora Teagarden<\/em>] movies [but have] no plans for new ones,\u201d fans desire for more from the librarian turned amateur sleuth caused the franchise to get a second wind earlier this year.<\/p>\n In the first installment of the revived franchise, which premieres on Friday, June 9, Samuels will slip into character<\/a> as the young Aurora who \u201creturns home to Lawrenceton after college to pursue her post-grad degree,\u201d according to the official synopsis. While home, Aurora \u201cfinds herself embroiled in a mystery involving her friend Sally\u2019s (Kayla Heller<\/strong>) fianc\u00e9.\u201d<\/p>\n While original stars Cameron Bure, Lexa Doig<\/strong> (the original Sally) and Niall Matter<\/strong><\/a> (Aurora\u2019s husband Nick Miller) will not be part of Something New<\/em>, Aurora\u2019s mother, Aida Teagarden, will still be played by Marilu Henner<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n Something New<\/em> will also star Evan Roderick<\/strong> as young Arthur, Hayley Sales<\/strong> as Kara Walker and Madison Smith<\/strong> as Matt Walker.<\/p>\n Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Something New<\/em> premieres on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries Friday, June 9, at 9 p.m. ET.<\/p>\n
