The beloved surfer girl flick Blue Crush<\/em> hit theaters on August 16, 2002, marking Kate Bosworth<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s first major role.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was so intense and overwhelming,\u201d the actress and model said of her sudden rise to fame<\/a> during a June 2021 appearance on the \u201cLadies First With Laura Brown\u201d podcast.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was a really, really hard time<\/a>, and I did not know how to handle that at all. And I also did not know how to really communicate through that very well to support systems or to my friends or family,\u201d Bosworth continued, revealing that she lost \u201ca lot of weight\u201d at the time due to being under \u201ca lot of scrutiny.\u201d<\/p>\n Despite the difficult period after the film first premiered, the California native thinks a Blue Crush<\/em> sequel is a great idea. \u201cSanoe [Lake]<\/strong>, Michelle [Rodriguez]<\/strong><\/a> and I always talk about it. We would love to make it happen,\u201d she told Entertainment Tonight<\/em> in May 2022.<\/p>\n \u201cThere are still a few waves that the world is still unwelcoming to women surfing them. I think it would be great to see another location in the world and bringing the girls to a wave that otherwise is male dominated,\u201d the I-Land<\/em> star added.<\/p>\n The sports movie, based on Susan Orlean<\/strong>\u2019s 1998 Outside magazine article \u201cLife\u2019s Swell,\u201d follows three friends out to prove that there\u2019s a place for women in the world of competitive surfing<\/a>. Shot in Oahu, Hawaii, the film featured cameos from real life pro surfers including Megan Abubo<\/strong>, Rochelle Ballard<\/strong>, Layne Benchley<\/strong>, Keala Kennelly<\/strong> and Kate Skarratt<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The director, John Stockwell<\/strong>, told IGN<\/em> in August 2002 that he \u201coriginally aspired to cast only surfers.\u201d Although Bosworth was an actress rather than an athlete<\/a>, she didn\u2019t disappoint.<\/p>\n \u201cShe was crazy. Fearless. She\u2019s insane,\u201d Stockwell told the outlet of the Blue Crush<\/em> star. \u201cShe went out on days where a guy would get paralyzed at the Pipeline, then she\u2019d paddle out five minutes later. She wasn\u2019t a diva<\/a>. I don\u2019t know what it is. She never really got hurt.
