LSU head coach Lane Kiffin<\/strong><\/a> isn\u2019t scared to mix work and politics.<\/p>\n

The former Ole Miss coach raised some eyebrows with a social media post<\/a> on Friday, January 23, in which he posted a picture of two hats with the moniker, \u201cMake Baton Rouge Great\u201d while tagging President Donald Trump<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

The message on the hat is a clear nod to President Trump\u2019s popular political slogan, \u201cMake America Great Again\u201d first used in 1980 by former President Ronald Reagan.<\/p>\n

After the post received nearly nine thousand likes on X, Kiffin, 50, deleted it on Saturday, January 24, as backlash built up in the comment section. He reposted the same photo later in the day with a new caption, \u201c\u2066@LSUfootball\u2069 #225,\u201d a nod to the Baton Rouge area code (225).<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tLane Kiffin is gone from Ole Miss \u2014 but he\u2019s certainly not forgotten. The former Rebels head coach ruffled some feathers with his abrupt exit from the team \u2014 leaving in November to coach at LSU despite his former team securing a spot in the College Football Playoff after one of the best seasons in [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cHey man, you\u2019ve had a phenomenal two and a half months, and you\u2019re old enough to have heard not to talk politics at work,\u201d wrote one user on the original post. \u201cYou may not care how people view you, but some recruits\u2019 parents ain\u2019t gonna care about the money\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLove you Lane. Terrible tweet,\u201d said another.<\/p>\n

Despite the backlash, the controversial football coach also received some praise in the comments under the original tweet.<\/p>\n

\u201cLane is working on bringing more national attention to the team, let him cook. Big picture,\u201d said one user.<\/p>\n

Kiffin irked some college football fans in November after he abruptly decided to leave Ole Miss<\/a> and coach at LSU instead, despite being in the midst of one of the best seasons in Rebels\u2019 history.<\/p>\n

After making his decision, he was met with boo\u2019s and expletives<\/a> from fans at the airport on his way out of town, with some middle fingers thrown in there for good measure.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was a very challenging and difficult day,\u201d Kiffin told ESPN before boarding his plane to Baton Rouge in November. \u201cWe went through a lot last night with Keith Carter trying to figure out a way to make this playoff run work and be able to coach the team, and at the end of the day that\u2019s his decision. I totally respect that and I understand that decision. I just totally wish the team the best of luck, I wish I was coaching, but I understand that it was a very challenging position for him to be in.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the time, Kiffin claimed that he wanted to continue coaching at Ole Miss through the College Football Playoff (even after making his decision to leave) \u2014 and that the team wanted him to stick around for a bit longer \u2014 but was denied that opportunity by Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Some players disputed Kiffin\u2019s claims<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018Despite the team asking me to keep coaching,\u2019\u201d Ole Miss offensive lineman Brycen Sanders wrote via X on December 2, quoting the statement Kiffin sent two days before. \u201cI think everyone that was in that room would disagree.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lineman Paris Wilkins<\/strong> quoted Sanders\u2019 post, writing, \u201cFax this was not said from anyone.\u201d<\/p>\n
