{"id":218612,"date":"2026-01-24T15:30:45","date_gmt":"2026-01-24T15:30:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/entertainment.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2026\/01\/24\/alaska-airlines-finishing-boeing-737-retrofits-begins-starlink-upgrades-the-points-guy\/"},"modified":"2026-01-24T15:30:45","modified_gmt":"2026-01-24T15:30:45","slug":"alaska-airlines-finishing-boeing-737-retrofits-begins-starlink-upgrades-the-points-guy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/entertainment.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2026\/01\/24\/alaska-airlines-finishing-boeing-737-retrofits-begins-starlink-upgrades-the-points-guy\/","title":{"rendered":"Alaska Airlines finishing Boeing 737 retrofits, begins Starlink upgrades &#8211; The Points Guy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>If you haven&#8217;t stepped on an Alaska Airlines plane in awhile, chances are you&#8217;ll notice more premium seats next time you board.<\/p>\n<p>The Seattle-based carrier is nearing the finish line of a<a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/news\/alaska-airlines-boeing-737-retrofits-first-class-premium\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> two-year push to retrofit its planes<\/a> with more first-class and extra-legroom seats.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s part of an effort to add 1.3 million higher-priced seats to the airline&#8217;s schedule each year.<\/p>\n<p>As of Friday, Alaska had completed cabin updates on 218 of its Boeing 737 jets, executives shared.<\/p>\n<p>That means the carrier is about 86% of the way done with the refits, which include adding two additional rows of first-class seats on 737-800 aircraft.<\/p>\n<p>On the 737-800s, by the way, these seats are a new first-class product for the carrier, featuring footrests \u2014 a touch more commonly found in competitors&#8217; international premium economy cabins.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"jsx-3874346954 tpg-figure\">\n<div style=\"padding-top:0\" class=\"jsx-2453190082 full-width-auto-height-image\"><\/div><figcaption class=\"jsx-3874346954 figcaption\">First Class on an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 9. SEAN CUDAHY\/THE POINTS GUY<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Starlink installations started on Alaska planes late last year, and carrier has added the high-speed tech to two-dozen aircraft, to date, executives confirmed Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Between Alaska- and Hawaiian-branded planes, 66 aircraft (16% of the combined fleet) now have Starlink Wi-Fi.<\/p>\n<p>The service is free for all flyers with an Atmos Rewards account.<\/p>\n<p>Alaska expects half of all planes will be equipped by the end of this year, with all planes Starlink-equipped by the end of 2027.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re on a plane that <em>doesn&#8217;t <\/em>have Starlink, in the meantime, Alaska typically charges $8 for full-access browsing.
