The 50-year-old former footballer and his 51-year-old fashion designer wife were horrified after Brooklyn lashed out at them in a scathing six-page Instagram post, where he insisted he doesn\u2019t want to reconcile due to their poor relationship with his wife Nicola Peltz Beckham.<\/p>\n
However, the pair \u2013 who also have sons Romeo, 23, and Cruz, 20, and daughter Harper, 14, together – want to fix their relationship with Brooklyn and are \u201cafraid of losing their son\u201d.<\/p>\n
A source told PEOPLE: \u201cThey are afraid of losing their son and would take him back in a minute. They are a close family, too. Just in a different way than Nicola\u2019s family is.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey love Brooklyn and are horrified about everything.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nIn his Instagram statement, Brooklyn blasted his family and insisted he does “not want to reconcile\u201d with parents.<\/p>\n
\nHe wrote: “I have been silent for years and made every effort to keep these matters private.<\/p>\n
\n“Unfortunately, my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed.<\/p>\n
\n“I do not want to reconcile with my family. I\u2019m not being controlled, I\u2019m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nWhile some people have supported Brooklyn after his statement, others like comedian Katherine Ryan have been heavily critical.<\/p>\n
\nSpeaking on her own Telling Everybody Everything podcast, she said: \u201cI am on David and Victoria’s side. As a parent, I think Brooklyn Beckham needs to grow up a little bit.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cHe is the first son of an absolute dynasty family, they are like a royal family in matching denims to us – and that comes with many privileges.<\/p>\n
\n“But of course it’s complicated because you live your life in the public eye. fine, but I feel that he has benefited from this a lot and he doesn’t seem to have the measured emotional intelligence to go, \u2018In many ways, this has been s***, but in many ways, this has created me with a beautiful life. My parents are not abusers. My parents performatively or otherwise say nice things about me and give me opportunities\u2019.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI do think a lot of nepo babies struggle with not being able to reach – certainly not eclipse – the success of their parents.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI\u2019m not seeing any of the gratitude in these posts.\u201d<\/p>\n
