Jessie Buckley is “so proud and honoured” to have been nominated for an Oscar.<\/p>\n

Jessie Buckley is nominated for the Best Actress Oscar<\/p>\n

The 36-year-old actress’ portrayal of Agatha Shakespeare in Hamnet has seen her shortlisted for the Best Actress prize at the upcoming Academy Awards alongside Rose Byrne<\/a> (If I Had Legs I\u2019d Kick You), Kate Hudson (Song Sung Blue), Renate Reinsve (Sentimental Value) and Emma Stone (Bugonia) and she couldn’t be happier.<\/p>\n

Speaking on a telephone interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she said: “My baby\u2019s screaming in the background, but I am thrilled. <\/p>\n

“I\u2019m so proud and honoured to be beside all those extraordinary women and to be there with Hamnet. I\u2019m delighted.”<\/p>\n

Hamnet is nominated for a total of eight awards, including the coveted Best Picture accolade and Best Director for Chloe Zhao<\/a>, but Paul Mescal was a surprise snub in the Best Supporting Actor category.<\/p>\n

\nHowever, Jessie believes her own recognition “belongs” to her co-star just as much as it does to herself because of how much she needed him for her own performance.<\/p>\n

\nAsked her reaction to his omission, she said: “Yeah, look, I think he\u2019s extraordinary in this film. I know I\u2019ve met a partner for life in doing this with him. I don\u2019t know what to say apart from he is, to me, my absolute. <\/p>\n

\n“His artistry is something that will continue to grow and be a theme in so many different ways. I know what we created together is something that\u2019s so special to us, and I hold that so dearly in my heart, and there\u2019s no part of Agnes that exists without Paul. <\/p>\n

\n“There\u2019s no part of what I created or what we created in this story which exists without Paul and what he poured into this story. <\/p>\n

\n“So what is recognised belongs to him as much as him being recognised in his own category would.”<\/p>\n

\nJessie regards the cast and crew of Hamnet as a “family”.<\/p>\n

\nShe said: “Being on the trail as a family has been what it felt like when we were making it. We were a little village. Any time we make these films to share, this is the next leg, to put it out into the world and share with an audience and feel their response…<\/p>\n

\n\u201dBut look, I love those guys so much. It was an absolute privilege of my life to tell this story with them and I\u2019m so proud and honored that it\u2019s been responded to the way it has in the cinema because that\u2019s who we make it for.”<\/p>\n
