Jill Duggar<\/strong><\/a> shared her story in the bombshell docuseries Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets<\/em><\/a> \u2014 and more of her relatives have begun to chime in.<\/p>\n The 19 Kids and Counting<\/em><\/a> alum sat down with her husband, Derick Dillard<\/strong><\/a>, to shed light on her fundamentalist Christian upbringing in the four-episode special, which hit Prime Video on June 2. Jill and her cousin Amy Duggar<\/strong><\/a> were among the many participants interviewed about their connection<\/a> to the controversial organization the Institute in Basic Life Principles (IBLP)<\/a>.<\/p>\n Shortly after the docuseries \u2014 which included emotional revelations from Jill about her brother Josh Duggar<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s past scandals \u2014 was released, the Arkansas native shared a screenshot of a DM<\/a> she received from a viewer.<\/p>\n \u201cThe piece that is hard about your message is that you are claiming to be \u2018harmed\u2019 by parents who were motivated to do good and bring you up with a good life,\u201d the user wrote, pointing out Jill\u2019s parents \u2014 Jim Bob<\/strong><\/a> and Michelle Duggar<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 \u201cthought they were doing the right thing\u201d for their family.<\/p>\n The message continued: \u201cIf your [sic] gonna tell the truth how about the whole truth?\u201d<\/p>\n Jill posted her reply via her Instagram Story. \u201cThanks. I\u2019m not minimizing or comparing my trauma to other people\u2019s trauma,\u201d she wrote. \u201cBut one person\u2019s difficult experience also shouldn\u2019t be invalidated by another\u2019s. Both are real. Both are harmful and need to be addressed.\u201d<\/p>\n The Counting On<\/em> alum also acknowledged that there can be \u201cbeauty amidst the trials,\u201d asserting that she still has love for her family<\/a> despite her highs and lows.<\/p>\n Jill previously opened up about her strained dynamic with her 18 siblings<\/a> and their parents in 2020, three years after choosing to leave Counting On<\/em><\/a>. \u201cWe found out we didn\u2019t have as much control over our lives as it related to the show and stuff, as we needed,\u201d she explained in a YouTube Q&A at the time.<\/p>\n She and Derick delved further into their decision in Shiny Happy People<\/em>, confessing that money played a part in their exit. Jill claimed that she was \u201cnever paid\u201d for being on either one of her family\u2019s TLC shows<\/a> \u2014 both of which were canceled amid controversy<\/a> \u2014 but that Jim Bob allegedly tried to work out a deal to pay his older kids a lump sum.<\/p>\n \u201cIn order to receive that, you had to sign another deal with my dad [and] his production company, Mad Family Inc.,\u201d she claimed. \u201cIt would be [for], like, forever.
