Saunders explains that most are caused by chromosomal abnormalities that prevent the embryo from developing normally\u2014factors that are entirely outside a woman\u2019s control.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cFor women who experience recurrent pregnancy loss, which is defined as two or more consecutive miscarriages, there may be an underlying cause that can be evaluated and treated by a fertility specialist,\u201d she adds.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Myth 2: Birth Control Can Impair Fertility<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2026\/01\/08\/nx-s1-5668409\/2026-women-health-trends-menopause-breast-cancer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">persistent myth<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> surrounding women\u2019s health is the belief that birth control can cause long-term fertility issues. Saunders says this misconception often creates unnecessary fear and may prevent women from choosing the contraception that\u2019s best for them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMyths that birth control can damage fertility create needless fear for women,\u201d she explains. \u201cWhile some people experience a short delay in the return to a monthly menstrual cycle after using hormonal birth control\u2014including IUDs, the pill, a patch, or an implant\u2014there\u2019s no evidence that these contraceptives affect fertility over the long term.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Saunders, fertility typically returns to normal once birth control use stops, allowing most women to conceive when they\u2019re ready.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Myth 3: Fertility Is Only a Women\u2019s Issue<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b>Michelle Agudelo<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a fertility awareness educator and menstrual health practitioner, says one of the most damaging myths is placing the burden of fertility entirely on women.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt takes 50% sperm and 50% egg to create a fertilized embryo,\u201d Agudelo tells <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Life &amp; Style<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u201cWe know that one in six couples actively trying to conceive struggle with infertility, yet 50% of the time it\u2019s male-factor infertility that\u2019s causing the issue.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She emphasizes that sperm health is just as important as egg health and encourages men to take an active role in fertility planning.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMen absolutely need to take their fertility seriously\u2014address their diet, limit marijuana and alcohol, and ease up on excessive heat like saunas,\u201d Agudelo explains. \u201cToo much heat is detrimental to sperm, especially when trying to conceive.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Myth 4: Post-Childbirth Changes Are Just Something You Live With<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b>Dr. Troy Robbin Hailparn<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a board-certified OB-GYN, says many women are wrongly told that physical changes after childbirth are unavoidable and untreatable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cSo many of my patients have shared that their gynecologist told them, \u2018That\u2019s just something you have to live with,\u2019\u201d Hailparn tells <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Life &amp; Style<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u201cThe truth is that functional and aesthetic changes from childbirth\u2014including vaginal laxity, discomfort, and urinary issues\u2014are treatable.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He adds that many women simply aren\u2019t aware that options exist beyond \u201cjust dealing with it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Myth 5: Perimenopause Starts in Your Late 40s<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b>Michelle Sands<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a licensed naturopathic physician at Glow Natural Wellness, says this myth often leaves women confused and dismissed when symptoms appear earlier in life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMany women start noticing changes in their mid-to-late 30s,\u201d Sands explains. \u201cSleep disruption, anxiety, heavier periods, rage-y PMS, weight gain, and changes in libido can all be early signs.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Her message is clear: \u201cIf you\u2019re 35 and older and feel like a different person, it\u2019s not \u2018just stress.\u2019 It could be perimenopause\u2014or perimenopause combined with stress.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifeandstylemag.com\/posts\/health-experts-debunk-the-biggest-womens-health-myths\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Women\u2019s health is often surrounded by misinformation, much of it passed down through word of mouth or amplified online.\u00a0 To separate fact from fiction, Life &amp; Style spoke with health experts and physicians who are setting the record straight on some of the most common myths women still believe.
