Former MTV reality star Farrah Abraham<\/strong><\/a> has political ambitions.<\/p>\n The 34-year-old submitted paperwork to run for the Austin, Texas mayoral race earlier this week, despite the race not happening until 2028. <\/p>\n After learning the race is over two years away during a TMZ Live<\/a><\/em> interview, Farrah<\/strong> has since begun eying her a seat on the District 5 city council instead.<\/p>\n Keep reading to find out more\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n KXAN Austin<\/em><\/a> news reports that her team refiled the forms on Thursday (January 15).<\/p>\n \u201cI reached out to the city and I just was like, \u2018hey, I\u2019m very serious about this \u2026 I love this city and I want to get involved in and help where I live and breathe, and I know I can help because I\u2019m making it, others seem to be struggling, and I want to jump in the mix,\u2019\u201d Farrah<\/strong> told the outlet. \u201cIf I could be a district seat and I could be mayor at the same time, I probably would do it.\u201d<\/p>\n While she grew up in Council Bluffs, Iowa, she has lived in Austin since 2013.<\/p>\n The Teen Mom<\/em> alum says she is primarily motivated to run because of housing affordability. <\/p>\n She wants to work with brokers and realtor associations to fix things \u201cbecause we have like, 2008 tax laws for closing on homes that just really isn\u2019t working for the Austin market, which is full of 1099s creatives and \u2026 self-employed people.\u201d<\/p>\n KXAN<\/em> notes that city council members are unable to change state tax laws or impact federal income taxes.<\/p>\n \u201cThey don\u2019t have to feel like they\u2019re moving farther and farther out of Austin. Like all of my friends just keep moving out,\u201d Farrah<\/strong> added. \u201cMy rent for what I was renting downtown just doubled \u2026 maybe tripled.<\/p>\n As for her what she thinks about her current district city council member Ryan Alter<\/strong>, she says she doesn\u2019t know anything about him.<\/p>\n Farrah<\/strong> said, \u201cI don\u2019t even know who\u2019s in District 5, maybe their names just like aren\u2019t big names or something. They just don\u2019t come up where I work.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cPeople definitely are not enthused with people who are in charge of the city or districts or mayor,\u201d she concluded.<\/p>\n Farrah<\/strong> isn\u2019t the only social media star looking to get into politics. Trisha Paytas<\/strong> also recently said she\u2019s mulling a run for Congress in 2026<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
