Melissa Leo<\/strong><\/a> is getting candid about how winning an Oscar has impacted her career \u2014 or rather, not<\/em> impacted it.<\/p>\n

Leo, 65, won the Best Supporting Actress award at the 83rd Academy Awards<\/a> in 2011 for her role in The Fighter<\/em>, which costarred Christian Bale<\/strong> and Mark Wahlberg<\/strong>. She had previously been nominated for 2008\u2019s Frozen River<\/em> in the Best Actress category.<\/p>\n

In a reader Q&A with The Guardian<\/em><\/a> published on Thursday, January 15, Leo was asked, \u201cWhat goes through your mind when you stand up to receive an Oscar?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOne loses one\u2019s mind. I had won a lot of prestigious awards for The Fighter<\/em> that season, and sat in that great gigantic theater thinking: \u2018Well, it certainly is possible,\u2019\u201d Leo recalled.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAnd the Oscar goes to \u2026 mess. Since the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences held its first awards show in 1929, the ceremony has faced plenty of scandals and criticism. Just one decade into the event\u2019s history, the Academy encounter what would become one of the biggest controversies in Oscars history. In 1940, [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

She continued, \u201cKirk Douglas<\/strong> came out to present the Best Supporting Actress award, opened the envelope and called my name. I was so delighted to meet him \u2013 that was all I was thinking about.\u201d<\/p>\n

Leo said she had a brief moment of panic on stage which caused her to curse on live television.<\/p>\n

\u201cI turned to the house, which in most theaters, you can see by looking a little above your own eyesight,\u201d she explained. \u201cIn the Dolby Theatre, you have to raise your chin like you\u2019re about to scale Mount Everest. Every single actor, director and producer you recognize is staring you in the face. I then cursed, and I\u2019m still sorry I cursed. I f***ing curse all the time, but you cannot curse on network television. Thank God for the 10-second delay, which was introduced for f***Ing idiots like me.\u201d<\/p>\n

It was then that Leo shared her real thoughts on winning an Oscar.<\/p>\n

\u201cHaving said that, winning an Oscar has not been good for me or my career. I didn\u2019t dream of it, I never wanted it, and I had a much better career before I won,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Back in 2011, Leo accidentally dropped an F-bomb<\/a> while giving her acceptance speech.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, I am kind of speechless. When I watched Kate two years ago, it looked so f***ing easy,\u201d she said, referring to Kate Winslet<\/strong>, who had won Best Actress for The Reader<\/em> two years before.<\/p>\n

Backstage, Leo apologized for the slipup.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tWhen Oscars season rolls around, many stars are wishing to see their name on the nominations list \u2014 but it always doesn\u2019t pan out. Even before her Barbie snub, Margot Robbie was overlooked for her previous projects. Robbie had her breakout role in Martin Scorsese\u2018s The Wolf of Wall Street in 2013, which she starred [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI really don\u2019t mean to offend, and [the Oscars were] probably a very inappropriate place to use that particular word,\u201d she told reporters backstage after accepting her award.<\/p>\n

Leo isn\u2019t the only star to express concern about winning an Oscar.<\/p>\n

Back in 2003, Marcia Gay Harden<\/strong> said winning Best Supporting Actress for the 2000 movie Pollock<\/em> was \u201cdisastrous on a professional level,\u201d per the Los Angeles Times<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n
