If you fly American Airlines<\/a> frequently, you may want to consider getting one of its cobranded Citi<\/a> cards.<\/p>\n

At the top of the hierarchy is the Citi\u00ae \/ AAdvantage\u00ae Executive World Elite Mastercard\u00ae<\/a><\/span> (see rates and fees<\/a>), which offers the most AA-specific perks of any credit card. But it comes with a hefty annual fee.<\/p>\n

So, is it worth the $595 annual fee \u2014 both in year one and beyond? Let’s do the math.<\/p>\n

Welcome bonus<\/h2>\n

For a limited time, the Citi \/ AAdvantage Executive World Elite Mastercard<\/a><\/span> is currently offering 100,000 miles after spending $10,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening.<\/p>\n

This bonus is worth $1,550, based on TPG’s January 2026 valuations<\/a>, and matches the highest-ever offer we’ve seen in the card’s history<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This bonus accounts for a significant portion of the card’s overall value, so earning it and redeeming the miles wisely are crucial to offsetting the card’s high annual fee.<\/p>\n

Lounge access<\/h2>\n

Arguably, the most valuable ongoing benefit of this card is the complimentary Admirals Club<\/a> membership you’ll receive every year that you hold it. When you have the Citi \/ AAdvantage Executive<\/a><\/span>, all you have to do is walk to the lounge and present a same-day boarding pass for an eligible flight.<\/p>\n

A membership costs $700 to $850, depending on your status level and whether it’s a new membership or a renewal. Given that this card carries a $595 annual fee, it doesn’t make sense to buy an Admirals Club membership on its own, unless you aren’t eligible for the card.<\/p>\n

You’ll be able to access approximately 50 Admirals Clubs and more than 60 partner lounges<\/a> worldwide when flying American or one of its Oneworld partners<\/a>. Notably, this includes Alaska Lounges<\/a> in hubs like Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Portland International Airport (PDX), San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA).<\/p>\n

You can bring in either your immediate family members (spouse or domestic partner and children under 18 years of age) or up to two guests. And they don’t need to be on the same flight as you \u2014 just any American or Oneworld flight with a same-day boarding pass.<\/p>\n

Travel benefits<\/h2>\n

The Citi \/ AAdvantage Executive World Elite Mastercard<\/a><\/span> offers valuable perks when flying American, including priority check-in at business-class counters (where available) and priority boarding privileges (where available) for you and up to eight travelers on the same reservation.<\/p>\n

You also get your first checked bag<\/a> free on domestic itineraries with American Airlines. (Note that this is only for domestic flights; I had to pay $35 in 2024 when I traveled to Mexico, forgetting the restrictions of this perk.)<\/p>\n

Additionally, you can enjoy a 25% discount on inflight food and beverage purchases<\/a> (excluding Wi-Fi) and receive a statement credit of up to $120 for Global Entry\/TSA PreCheck<\/a>. (I suggest maximizing your credit by applying for Global Entry, as it includes PreCheck anyway.)<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the card includes travel protections<\/a>, such as trip cancellation, trip interruption, trip delay, lost baggage protection and car rental insurance coverage.<\/p>\n

And there are no foreign transaction fees<\/a>, making this card a great option for international travel.<\/p>\n

Elite status<\/h2>\n

If chasing AAdvantage elite status<\/a> is important to you, the Citi \/ AAdvantage Executive World Elite Mastercard<\/a><\/span> will help you achieve it. You’ll earn 1 Loyalty Point for every mile you earn from purchases.<\/p>\n

On top of that, you’ll receive a 10,000 Loyalty Points bonus upon reaching 50,000 Loyalty Points in a status qualification year. An additional 10,000 Loyalty Points bonus will be granted once you hit 90,000 Loyalty Points in the same year.<\/p>\n
