Late last year, as Heated Rivalry<\/em> became the breakout TV hit of the season<\/a>, the steamy series about closeted gay hockey players<\/a> managed to escape the glare of conservatives who usually love to decry sex in culture. That is, until conservative YouTuber Brett Cooper<\/strong> decided to watch the series on the recommendation of her \u201cgay best friend\u201d\u2014and she was shocked at what she saw. The title of the show she released about it on Saturday<\/a> says it all: \u201cWatching Gay P*rn Is the New SJW Fetish.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI turned it on and I was like, \u2018My eyes, Amir, my eyes! I can\u2019t deal with this,\u2019\u201d said Cooper. For her, though, the real issue wasn\u2019t seeing graphic gay sex\u2014it was the supposed hypocrisy of women who enjoy Heated Rivalry.<\/em> \u201cLiberal women have built their entire modern identity and their political identity around hating men,\u201d Cooper claimed. \u201cAt the end of the day, biology still wins. They are still attracted to these men.\u201d<\/p>\n So far, other major conservative influencers have been curiously silent on the Heated Rivalry<\/em> phenomenon. Perhaps they\u2019re too busy talking about the coming-out scene<\/a> in the final season of Stranger Things,<\/em> which the Daily Wire\u2019s Michael Knowles<\/strong> said<\/a> was \u201cvery unrealistic because in the \u201980s, if you came out as gay, at least one of your buddies would call you a slur, right?\u201d But its graphic sexual content seems like the perfect bait for Cooper\u2019s cohort. Conservatives like Rod Dreher<\/strong>\u2014newly of Bari Weiss<\/strong>\u2019s Free Press<\/em>\u2014have long called out gay romance novels for being \u201ctrashy softcore<\/a>\u201d products by which elites attempt to \u201cqueer America.\u201d The negative effects of online porn are also a constant topic of conversation among right-leaning influencers.<\/p>\n In her commentary, though, Cooper set her sights specifically on women who enjoy romances like Heated Rivalry.<\/em> \u201cThere is an entire, huge subgenre and community on TikTok solely dedicated to sexy, pornographic smut novels and the women who read them,\u201d Cooper said. \u201cWomen kind of sit on their high horse and they\u2019re going, \u2018Oh, well, no, it\u2019s not porn. This is literature.<\/em>\u2019 No, I\u2019m sorry, your smut novel is not literature.\u201d<\/p>\n After reading headlines of articles about women\u2019s devotion to Heated Rivalry,<\/em> she was even more blunt. \u201cLet\u2019s be real here: The women have also lost their damn minds. We complain all day long about men objectifying and sexualizing women thanks to \u2018porn brain,\u2019\u201d she said, using a common conservative term to describe the effects of supposed porn addiction. \u201cWomen are doing the same thing in their own way.\u201d<\/p>\n Cooper isn\u2019t alone in thinking that a \u201csexualized\u201d culture<\/a> is affecting women as well as men. Last month, British conservative pundit Milo Yiannopoulos<\/strong> stopped by former Fox News host Tucker Carlson<\/strong>\u2019s podcast; there, they discussed Yiannopoulos\u2019s recent decision to renounce homosexuality<\/a>. \u201cGay people are sort of saturated everywhere,\u201d said Yiannopoulos, even though he believes that \u201cnobody is gay.\u201d The provocateur also used the f-slur while claiming that gay men encourage their female friends to engage in \u201cpromiscuity culture\u2026to sort of have a nudge-and-a-wink kind of relationship.\u201d<\/p>\n In her Heated Rivalry<\/em> episode, Cooper promoted Angel Studios, the Christian-owned production company behind hits like Sound of Freedom<\/em> and The Chosen.<\/em> \u201cNow, thankfully, Angel Studios makes movies and TV shows without all of this crap,\u201d she said. \u201cTheir new movie, David,<\/em> is a stunning animated musical that brings the story of the shepherd boy who became a king to life like never before.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
