Best Medicine<\/em> has Abigail Spencer<\/strong><\/a> caught in a fictional love triangle between Josh Charles<\/strong><\/a> and Josh Segarra<\/strong> \u2014 but how will it continue to play out on screen?<\/p>\n

While speaking exclusively with Us Weekly <\/em>during a set visit, Spencer, 44, discussed how Best Medicine<\/em> differs<\/a> from Doc Martin<\/em>, which is the inspiration for the Fox show.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo much of that is in the calibrating of the writing. I think [executive producer] Liz Tuccillo is doing a great job. You will see differences from the original Doc Martin. That show was not really built on a love triangle with a will-they, won\u2019t-they,\u201d Spencer, who plays Louisa, noted. \u201cIt\u2019s much more spread out and earned. I think great TV is will-they, won\u2019t-they. So how do you really believably do that over time and navigate that?\u201d<\/p>\n

The actress praised the show for pulling off a heartwarming story.<\/p>\n

Based on Jeffery Deaver\u2018s novel The Never Game, Tracker has viewers tuning in each week to see their favorite fictional survivalist \u2014 a.k.a Colter [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s great. It\u2019s inherently in the scripts. It\u2019s just finding those details. Like Liz and I labored over, \u2018When does she go from calling him Dr. Best to Martin because of that familiarity?’\u201d Spencer recalled. \u201cSo we\u2019re still navigating that. But I love that the detail is top of mind all the time. I think hopefully that\u2019s what people will feel is that nuance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Best Medicine<\/em>, which airs on Tuesday, January 6, follows a doctor who<\/a> \u201cmoves from the city of Boston, Massachusetts, to a small practice in the East Coast fishing village where he vacationed as a child,\u201d according to the official synopsis.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverybody loves Louisa. She\u2019s the town schoolteacher. I would say she\u2019s also the town\u2019s tempest,\u201d Spencer teased to Us. \u201cLouisa has always played by the rules, done the right thing and she\u2019s kind of shaken things up by calling off her eight-year engagement with the sheriff.\u201d<\/p>\n

Spencer hinted that Louisa\u2019s recent decisions<\/a> will be \u201cdisruptive to the town\u201d of Port Wenn, adding, \u201cIt\u2019s fun to see her in an interesting pivot in her life. It makes space to maybe meet someone new. \u2026 But there is inherent conflict in the fact that they just broke up and then constantly see each other all the time because that is how small the town is.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued: \u201cAlso they are best friends, so I think it\u2019s painful. They love each other and they\u2019re like two peas in a pod. But they just might not be the right fit for each other romantically.\u201d<\/p>\n
