Doug LaMalfa has passed away.<\/p>\n<p>The longtime GOP congressman from California was 65 years old.<\/p>\n<p>News of LaMalfa\u2019s death comes courtesy of an announcement from his chief of staff, Mark Spannagel.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><noscript><\/noscript><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.thehollywoodgossip.com\/uploads\/2026\/01\/GettyImages-2200021556-1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"US Rep. He leaves a lasting legacy of servant leadership kindness to the North State,\u201d LaMalfa\u2019s chief of staff, Mark Spannagel, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc10.com\/article\/news\/local\/congressional-office-statement-passing-rep-doug-lamalfa\/103-98cecb39-c61e-4a4f-8ae7-54e57630296b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said in a statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCongressman LaMalfa cared deeply for the people he served and worked tirelessly to hold the government to its word to fix our failing forests, build water storage, and leave people to be free to choose what is best for themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, a close friend of the congressman, confirmed LaMalfa\u2019s death in a statement Tuesday.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"683\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.thehollywoodgossip.com\/uploads\/2026\/01\/GettyImages-2156078720-1-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Rep. Doug LaMalfa is seen with  Therapy dog Maverick as he attends Canines on Capitol Hill on June 04, 2024 in Washington, DC. <span class=\"image-caption-credit\"> (Photo by Paul Morigi\/Getty Images for American Humane)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cJacquie and I are devastated about the sudden loss of our friend, Congressman Doug LaMalfa,\u201d Emmer wrote on X, adding:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDoug was a loving father and husband, and staunch advocate for his constituents and rural America,\u201d Emmer wrote in a post on X. \u201cOur prayers are with Doug\u2019s wife, Jill, and their children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>LaMalfa\u2019s death could wind up carrying political consequences for his Republican colleagues.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/01\/06\/doug-lamalfa-dies-congress-california.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CNBC<\/a> reports, the House stood at 219 Republicans and 213 Democrats after Rep.
