5 January 2026<\/time>\n <\/p>\nMarisa Abela was “disappointed” to find her partner “on the floor being sick” – because she thought he was about to propose.<\/p>\n <\/p>\nMarisa Abela was ready for a proposal<\/p>\n\nThe Industry actress married Jamie Bogyo in September and she admitted it took her by surprise when he popped the question on Primrose Hill – where they had first met as students at RADA – in 2024 because she had been expecting it a few weeks before.<\/p>\n\nShe told the Sunday Times Style magazine of his proposal: \u201cI wasn\u2019t expecting it. I knew it was coming but we were in Paris a few weeks before and I was sure he was going to propose then. <\/p>\n\n“We were at dinner with friends and he went back to the hotel saying he was ill but that I should stay. I was like, \u2018OK, sure, I\u2019ll play along.\u2019 <\/p>\n\n“I got back later, expecting roses and champagne to be everywhere, and instead found Jamie in a ball on the floor being sick.<\/p>\n\n“I had to play off my disappointment really quickly!\u201d<\/p>\n\nThe couple married in East Sussex and Marisa is thankful she and Jamie left the celebrations at Brighton’s Soho House at a relatively early 4am instead of joining some of their 150 guests at an afterparty.<\/p>\n\nShe said: “[The day was] amazing and a big party. Very booze-focused. <\/p>\n\n“Jamie and I went to bed at about 4am, we were sensible. There was an afterparty but I\u2019m glad we didn\u2019t go. <\/p>\n\n“The next day was so special and I\u2019m glad that I didn\u2019t feel like death and could remember everything.\u201d<\/p>\n\nThe 29-year-old actress is thankful for the support of her husband.<\/p>\n\nShe said: \u201cHe reads everything I get sent, I read everything he writes and we\u2019re a team. He has always been my biggest supporter and my biggest fan.\u201d<\/p>\n\nBack in 2020, Marisa was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and though she received the all-clear, she will have to attend regular check-ups and take medication for the rest of her life.<\/p>\n\nShe said: \u201cI\u2019m all in the clear now, thank God.<\/p>\n\n\u201cI don\u2019t have a working thyroid so these pills sort of create one. I\u2019m never going to miss those appointments.
