Eddie Murphy<\/strong><\/a> is opening up about leaving the Oscars early back in 2007.<\/p>\n The 64-year-old actor and comedian was nominated that year for Best Supporting Actor for his role as James \u201cThunder\u201d Early in the Dreamgirls<\/em> movie. However, he lost the award to Alan Arkin<\/strong><\/a>, who won for Little Miss Sunshine<\/em>. <\/p>\n During a recent discussion about his new Netflix documentary Being Eddie<\/a><\/em>, he shared the real reason why he left the ceremony early after losing the award. <\/p>\n Keep reading to find out more\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWhat happened was I was at the Oscars, I had lost, and then people kept coming over to me and kept [patting] me on the shoulder,\u201d he shared with EW<\/a><\/em>. \u201cClint Eastwood<\/strong><\/a> came and rubbed my shoulder. And I was like, oh, no, no, I\u2019m not gonna be this guy all night. Let\u2019s just leave. I didn\u2019t storm out. I was like, I\u2019m not gonna be the sympathy guy all night.\u201d <\/p>\n He even said he knew Alan<\/strong> was going to win as he had seen Little Miss Sunshine<\/em> several months before it was released. <\/p>\n \u201cJeff Katzenberg<\/strong> invited me over to see Little Miss Sunshine<\/em> six months before it came out in the theaters, and I literally watched the movie and I watched Alan <\/strong>\u2014 and I hadn\u2019t been nominated or anything yet \u2014 and I watched the movie and I turned to Jeff<\/strong> afterwards and I said, \u2018Now that performance right there is one of those performances that will steal somebody\u2019s Oscar,\u2019\u201d Eddie<\/strong> recalled. \u201cI said those exact words. I was like, \u2018He could steal somebody\u2019s Oscar,\u2019 then he stole mine.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cNo, I don\u2019t feel like he stole mine,\u201d he then clarified with a laugh.<\/p>\n The comedian has come to understand that a performance isn\u2019t just the thing that will get you the Oscar. <\/p>\n He calls it \u201cmore art than science. It\u2019s not like oh, you do this, and you do that, and you win the Oscar. No, it\u2019s all this intangible stuff that comes with winning: campaigning and your past stuff and what do they owe you and s\u2014. All of that stuff comes into play when you get Oscars.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWhen you add all of that stuff into it, he totally deserves his Oscar for his whole career. He\u2019s an amazing actor,\u201d Eddie<\/strong> gushed of Alan<\/strong>. <\/p>\n Last summer, Eddie<\/strong> responded to rumors<\/a> that his Norbit<\/em> role is what cost him the Dreamgirls<\/em> Oscar. <\/p>\n Speaking of Dreamgirls<\/em>, the musical is heading back to Broadway for the first time<\/a> since the 1980s!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
