Sarah Shahi<\/strong><\/a> promised that Paradise<\/em> fans can look forward to more onscreen twists and turns when the hit Hulu series returns for season 2.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a roller-coaster ride. [Creator Dan Fogelman<\/strong>] is just so good at taking the audience and pulling the rug out from underneath them,\u201d Shahi, 45, teased in her Us Weekly<\/em> digital cover story<\/a> about her upcoming book, Life Is Lifey: The A to Z\u2019s on Navigating Life\u2019s Messy Middle<\/em><\/a>. \u201cJust when you think you know what\u2019s happening, [something surprising happens], and then you\u2019re like, \u2018Oh, my God. I didn\u2019t even see that coming.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Shahi is \u201cexcited\u201d for new episodes to start airing on February 23 after having to remain so tight-lipped about the show\u2019s return.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt feels great. I am fond of all the jobs that I\u2019ve been on for various different reasons, but it feels good to be on something that people like. When the love is that high, it just really gives you an extra pep in your step,\u201d she noted. \u201cDriving into work in the mornings, it feels really good.\u201d<\/p>\n

This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman\u2018s political thriller originally premiered in January 2025 under a shroud of mystery. Paradise was teased as a show \u201cset in a serene, wealthy community inhabited by some [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The actress, who plays psychotherapist and grief specialist Gabriela, praised Fogelman\u2019s vision, adding, \u201cDan is such an incredible writer, and the thing that I love about him is that he\u2019s an even better human. I\u2019m like, \u2018How is that possible?\u2019 Writing is his superpower between working on his new NFL show, Paradise and Only Murders in the Building. He\u2019s just an incredible human.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shahi continued: \u201cThe thing that I realized with working with people that are very talented is there is a level of confidence in their work. If one of us as actors felt like this line needed to change or we have a question about something, he takes the time to listen. He\u2019s not precious about things. It\u2019s been really nice to feel that creative freedom and to feel like you have a real seat at the table.\u201d<\/p>\n

After returning to film season 2, Shahi appreciated the opportunity<\/a> to build out her character more, adding, \u201cIt just helps fill in the lines. A lot of times when I\u2019m breaking a character down or I\u2019m looking at something, I like to play what I don\u2019t know. Perfect people are boring. I look for the crack in the veneer, and it just requires a lot of conversations as well with the director and with the writer to make sure the things that I\u2019m piecing together go with the overall story. It does require a lot of conversations and building something together \u2014 and that\u2019s what Dan has allowed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hulu\u2019s political thriller Paradise<\/em><\/a>, which premiered in January 2025, took the internet by storm as viewers theorized about the various plot twists. Fogelman\u2019s hit series initially appeared to be set in a serene and wealthy community forced to face the realities of a shocking murder. In typical Fogelman fashion, however, there was a twist at the end of the premiere, when Paradise was revealed to be an underground bunker housing the world\u2019s most prominent individuals after an apocalyptic event destroyed the rest of humanity.<\/p>\n

Paradise<\/em> is a project Shahi is most proud<\/a> of after revealing in Life Is Lifey<\/em>, which is out on January 27, that she previously turned down work on network TV for a year.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was miserable on network television shows. I would go to work and it felt like there was a piece missing from my soul,\u201d she told Us about the hiatus before booking her dream role as Billie Connelly on 2021\u2019s Sex\/Life<\/em>. \u201cI had to really pick myself up and trust my gut and know that I was capable of so much more if I just gave myself the opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n

Paramount+ surprised viewers by renewing Landman for a third season before season 2 came to an end. Inspired by the \u201cBoomtown\u201d podcast series, Landman is focused on the West Texas oil industry with a [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Shahi acknowledged the challenges that stemmed from that choice.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy reps were not happy with the decision. I was making good money as a network actress, and I really took a chance on myself and was like, \u2018You know what? It\u2019s OK to sit on the sidelines for a while, to not make any money, because I trust that it\u2019ll come back around,\u2019\u201d she recalled. \u201cAnd it did, but yeah, it was hard. I had a lot of people in my ear telling me I was making a mistake.\u201d<\/p>\n
