The Rookie<\/em><\/a> is going international \u2014 at least to kick off season 8 \u2014 with the upcoming premiere taking place in Prague.<\/p>\n

Showrunner Alexi Hawley<\/strong> and star Nathan Fillion<\/strong><\/a>, who plays LAPD officer John Nolan, confirmed the overseas adventure during San Diego Comic-Con in July 2025.<\/p>\n

Both Nolan and his wife, firefighter Bailey Nune (Jenna Dewan<\/strong><\/a>), will be part of the Czech-filled episode, according to TVLine<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

The rest of the international cast includes, Mekia Cox<\/strong>\u2019s Detective Nyla Harper<\/a>, Bridget Regan<\/strong>\u2019s villainous Monica Stevens and Felix Soli<\/strong>s\u2019 FBI Supervisory Special Agent Matt Garza, who has previously crossed over from The Rookie: Feds<\/em>, which is no longer on the air.<\/p>\n

The season 7 finale aired in May 2025 and brought back two villains<\/a>: Oscar Hutchinson (Matthew Glave<\/strong>) and Monica (Regan). After being kidnaped by Oscar, Nolan managed to get away with his life and Oscar\u2019s stolen diamonds. Oscar, who had escaped prison before his battle with Nolan in the desert, managed to escape.<\/p>\n

Corrupt attorney Monica, meanwhile, shocked the LAPD when she revealed during the finale that she made an immunity deal with the FBI in exchange for the stolen data she illegally acquired earlier in the season.<\/p>\n

In addition to Fillion, Dewan and Cox, series regulars Alyssa Diaz<\/strong>, as Detective Angela Lopez, Richard T. Jones<\/strong>, as Lieutenant Wade Grey, Melissa O\u2019Neil<\/strong><\/a>, as Sergeant Lucy Chen, Eric Winter<\/strong><\/a>, as Sergeant Tim Bradford, Shawn Ashmore<\/strong><\/a>, as ADA Wesley Evers, and Lisseth Chavez<\/strong>, as Officer Celina Juarez, are expected to return.<\/p>\n

Deric Augustine<\/strong>, who began playing rookie officer Miles Penn during season 7, has been promoted to a series regular, according to TVLine<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Hawley exclusively told Us<\/em><\/a> in May, \u201cIt\u2019s not the last we\u2019re gonna see\u201d of Oscar, teasing that he will return at some point during season 8. \u201cOscar\u2019s always very focused on what\u2019s good for Oscar,\u201d he said, explaining that he\u2019s not as \u201crevenge oriented\u201d as other baddies.<\/p>\n

He also confirmed that Monica\u2019s story would continue to start the season. \u201cIt\u2019s maddening to our people who want nothing more than to put her in jail where she deserves to be,\u201d Hawley said of how the LAPD will react to Monica\u2019s immunity moving forward.<\/p>\n

Jones agreed with the showrunner, exclusively telling Us<\/em><\/a> in March 2025 that the police won\u2019t understand \u201cMonica\u2019s influence\u201d or why she\u2019s \u201cstirring the pot\u201d right away.<\/p>\n

Fillion, meanwhile, told TVLine<\/em> in July 2025 that Monica being \u201cfree and smug feels like an injustice\u201d and therefore \u201cpeople will be anxious to see her pay for what she\u2019s done.\u201d<\/p>\n

During the season 7 finale, Tim asked Lucy to move in with him, but she fell asleep after a long night shift as a newly minted sergeant and didn\u2019t hear the question. Their romance<\/a>, however, is in good shape heading into season 8, according to Hawley.<\/p>\n

The showrunner told Us<\/em> in May, \u201cCementing that conversation<\/a> at the top of the next season and figuring out what the right next step is\u201d for \u201cChenford\u201d won\u2019t be overlooked. \u201cWhatever the definition of end game is, I think we\u2019re getting there for sure,\u201d Hawley added of the couple\u2019s story arc.<\/p>\n

When it comes to Nolan and Bailey\u2019s romance<\/a>, Hawley said that the \u201cdoor is closed\u201d for now on a possible pregnancy or baby.<\/p>\n

Hawley told Us<\/em> in May 2025 that fans could get more from Celina and musician boyfriend Rodge Bronson\u2019s (Zander Hawley<\/strong>) romance even though he got a gig overseas during the season 7 finale. \u201cThey\u2019re super fun together and I think it\u2019s very real for people to come in and out and that they\u2019re dating,\u201d the showrunner explained.<\/p>\n

The last time fans saw Grey and his wife, Luna (Angela Parker<\/strong>), they were happy and Harper and her husband, James Murray (Arjay Smith<\/strong>), were also back on track. Only time will tell if they remain that way.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think it\u2019ll be months later,\u201d Hawley told TVLine<\/em> in July 2025. \u201cI think it\u2019ll be fairly continuous \u2014 not literally next day, but within a fairly short amount of time.\u201d<\/p>\n

He teased, \u201cThere\u2019s some time-sensitive stuff that we left hanging, that feels like we should [resolve soon] for the audience. I don\u2019t think we should jump forward too far in time.\u201d<\/p>\n
