Rachel Reid<\/b>, author of Heated Rivalry, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2023 and has been on a waitlist ever since to get Parkinson’s care. The NHL<\/b> is trying to capitalize on the popularity of Heated Rivalry and, in the process, somehow missing that the real enemy in the book series is actually the NHL (disguised as its in-universe equivalent).<\/p>\n

If you’re wondering how the NHL<\/b> has historically handled its relationship with the gay community, they previously banned players from wearing themed jerseys and using themed tapes to promote social causes<\/b>. Notably, this included using “pride tape” (rainbow-coloured tape) on their sticks during warm ups, practices, and games, and was done to appease the homophobes in the league. The NHL only overturned the ban after Travis Dermott<\/b> (then defence for the Arizona Coyotes) put his career on the line and became the first NHL player to defy the ban and play a game with pride tape on his stick.<\/p>\n

For all some podcasts, teams, and (in part) the NHL<\/b> itself appear to be embracing the show, not everyone is so keen. Unsurprisingly, things are mostly breaking down along pre-existing lines–franchises that were already seen as being “pro-pride” are publicly buying in and supporting the show, while others are straight up ignoring it.<\/p>\n
