A new documentary is shedding more light on what led to Chevy Chase<\/strong><\/a> leaving Community<\/strong><\/a><\/em>. <\/p>\n The 82-year-old actor starred as Pierce Hawthorne through the first four seasons of the TV series, before exiting mid-season four<\/a>.<\/p>\n Back in 2018, it was reported<\/a> that Chevy<\/strong> made racist jokes towards co-star Donald Glover<\/strong><\/a>, including the use of a racial slur. <\/p>\n In the upcoming I\u2019m Chevy Chase and You\u2019re Not<\/em> documentary, director Jay Chandrasekhar<\/strong> recalled witnessing the incident and shared new details about what happened. <\/p>\n Keep reading to find out more\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Jay<\/strong>, who helmed several episodes of Community<\/em>, says that he was on set the day Chevy<\/strong> was fired from the comedy show.<\/p>\n The director recalled that Chevy<\/strong> said something to co-star Yvette Nicole Brown<\/strong><\/a>, but didn\u2019t hear what he said. <\/p>\n THR<\/a><\/em> previously reported that Chase<\/strong> was \u201cfrustrated\u201d about the direction of where his character was going on used the N-word \u201cwhen questioning the dialogue,\u201d with Glover <\/strong>and Brown<\/strong> present, but \u201cthe slur was not directed at them.\u201d<\/p>\n In the documentary, Jay<\/strong> said, \u201cI know that there was a history between [Chevy<\/strong> and Yvette<\/strong>] around race, and she got up and stormed out of there. Chevy<\/strong> storms off, so the producer is like, \u2018We need Yvette<\/strong> in the scene, right?\u2019 I\u2019m like, \u2018Yeah, she\u2019s in the next scene.\u2019 And he goes, \u2018Well, she won\u2019t come out unless Chevy<\/strong> apologizes to her.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n He said the actor then returned to set but claimed he \u201cdidn\u2019t say anything.<\/p>\n \u201cHe goes, \u2018You know, me and Richard Pryor<\/strong>, I used to call Richard Pryor<\/strong> the N-word, and he used to call me The Honky, and we loved each other.\u2019 And I\u2019m like, \u2018I know, man, I love that bit.\u2019 I said, \u2018You know, can we just have a little apology?\u2019 He goes, \u2018For what?\u2019\u201d Jay<\/strong> recalled, who then recounted that someone leaked there was a racial incident on set, leading to Chase<\/strong> having a \u201cfull meltdown.\u201d<\/p>\n Jay<\/strong> shared that Chevy<\/strong> came \u201cstorming onto the set, and he goes, \u2018Who f\u2013ked me over?\u2019 \u2026 \u2018My career is ruined! I\u2019m ruined!\u2019 Like, it\u2019s a full meltdown. \u2018F\u2013k all of you!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cAnd I\u2019m like, \u2018Alright, let\u2019s shoot the scene.\u2019 He never ended up coming back after that,\u201d the director said.<\/p>\n Back in 2023, Chevy<\/strong> slammed the show<\/a> and said that Community<\/em> was not \u201cfunny enough\u201d for him.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
