The 37-year-old actor admitted Jim Jones, the leader of the Peoples Temple who led more than 900 of his followers to mass suicide in 1978, was an “early reference” for his alter ego’s latest incantation, Mr. WhatsIt, as seen in the second volume of the final season of the show.<\/p>\n
He told Variety: \u201cJim Jones was an early reference for me.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was on the mood board, even with regard to certain things that he\u2019s saying when the kids are all in front of him. <\/p>\n
“There were points where I thought, \u2018Do I say the word ‘you’ or do I use the word ‘we’? We\u2019re a family now.\u2019 That\u2019s really grim! <\/p>\n
\n“It totally can remove the idea of autonomy, so definitely there had to be that level of cult leader-esqueness about him.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nWhile Mr. WhatsIt isn’t as sinister-looking as Vecna, Jamie admitted his latest character was just as “terrifying” to play, particularly when working with the child actors he has taken and having to hide his true intentions and past experiences as Henry Creel.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cThere was so much fear in playing that.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cWhat you saw in Season 4 happened, and it was real. <\/p>\n
\n“This is very much like, how nice can I be to these poor children to make them feel as comfortable as possible in this world? And how much of my experience am I burying within that? <\/p>\n
\n“And it\u2019s always a really terrifying prospect when you\u2019re sat opposite another actor, and your intentions are so deeply buried.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThere\u2019s a level of real dishonesty in that, and that\u2019s really scary. It\u2019s really hard, particularly opposite a child.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nJamie insisted there is still a level of humanity buried within Vecna and his alter egos.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cThere\u2019s definitely a humanity that I can see. How much of that is portrayed in this volume is open for discussion and interpretation \u2014 there\u2019s definitely trauma and experience that is present but unexplored at this point.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe final episode of the show will be released on 31 December and Jamie insisted fans are “probably wrong” if they think they know what will happen.<\/p>\n
\nHe teased: \u201cThe end of seven is an incredible setup for what is to come. And if you think you know what is to come at the beginning of eight, you\u2019re probably wrong.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cIt really does blow the f*** up. Whatever you think you know will be exceeded.\u201d<\/p>\n
