Kevin O\u2019Leary<\/strong><\/a> and Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s intense bare-butt paddle scene in Marty Supreme<\/em> was just as crazy to film as it appeared on screen.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had a fake paddle that had a hinge thing and a foam thing. It was supposed to not hurt. Didn\u2019t work. It broke immediately,\u201d O\u2019Leary, 71, exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> ahead of Marty Supreme<\/em>\u2019s Thursday, December 25, release. \u201cSo we got to a real paddle, wood, like, a real paddle, with grooves on the surface of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

O\u2019Leary, who plays businessman Milton Rockwell in the biopic, explained that while there was an \u201cass double\u201d for Chalamet, the actor ultimately wanted to be the one to perform the scene, which sees titular character Marty (Chalamet) asking Milton for forgiveness after passing on some exhibition ping pong matches. After Marty\u2019s begging, Milton has the young athlete drop his pants and bend over for a spanking.<\/p>\n

\u201cTimmy walked in [and] said, \u2018No, it\u2019s got to be my ass. I\u2019m going to immortalize my ass on film in perpetuity,\u2019\u201d O\u2019Leary recalled, adding he tried to talk Chalamet out of it once he realized he was going to \u201chit\u201d him with the nonprop paddle. \u201cAnd he said, \u2018I\u2019m doing it.\u2019 So we started whacking cheeks left and right and left and right to try and keep the red the same intensity.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tGwyneth Paltrow accidentally mistook Marty Supreme costar Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet\u2019s makeup for bad skin \u2014 and offered up some unsolicited advice. \u201cIn Marty Supreme, Timoth\u00e9e has pockmarks, and they made his eyes beady with contacts and glasses,\u201d Paltrow, 53, said during the Tuesday, December 2, episode of The Run-Through With Vogue. \u201cAnd it\u2019s all makeup.\u201d Paltrow [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

While O\u2019Leary \u201ccould feel the heat off\u201d of Chalamet\u2019s buttocks after about \u201c20 takes,\u201d director Josh Safdie<\/strong> told the Shark Tank<\/em> star he was \u201cnot hitting him hard enough\u201d and the scene didn\u2019t \u201clook real.\u201d (\u201cNow I know you\u2019re a sick puppy,\u201d O\u2019Leary jokingly remembered thinking.)<\/p>\n

\u201cI wound up like a baseball bat, and I nailed his right cheek, and I think his eyeballs exploded out of his head, and that\u2019s what you see,\u201d O\u2019Leary said of the take used in the final edit. \u201cHis reaction to that was still just great.\u201d<\/p>\n

O\u2019Leary confessed he was impressed with what a \u201ccrazy trooper\u201d Chalamet was on set.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have a new respect for that kid,\u201d he said. \u201cThere\u2019s no question about it. And he deserves an Academy Award.\u201d<\/p>\n

In recent weeks, Chalamet has echoed similar sentiments about his performance, which he has deemed award-worthy. The Dune<\/em> star ultimately received backlash<\/a> for his confident stance, but from O\u2019Leary\u2019s perspective, Marty Supreme<\/em> is unlike Chalamet\u2019s previous roles.<\/p>\n

\u201cI went out of my way knowing I was going to be across from him to watch all his stuff, the Dune<\/em> stuff, everything [is] so good. And I can tell you with certainty, and I\u2019m right about this, this is his best performance by a factor of 100 percent,\u201d O\u2019Leary told Us. \u201cIt\u2019s beyond anything he\u2019s ever done. And he went to a new place. He just did. And I was there. I watched it happen. I was in the room, saying, \u2018Wow, this guy is f***ing crazy.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Coming from the world of reality TV, seeing Chalamet\u2019s process for getting into character as Marty was a whirlwind experience for O\u2019Leary due to his ability to \u201criff\u201d and \u201cimprov.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I saw the final cut, they took scripted lines and merged them in with riffs that were improv, And that\u2019s why the kinetic energy is there, the best of the best of every scene. Even though it was a mistake,\u201d he said. \u201cChalamet kind of works in every scene where he gets up, comes back, sits down, and he\u2019s in Marty, like, he\u2019s not Chalamet anymore. He\u2019s Marty. And the sparks are flying off him, and if you\u2019re crossing him, you\u2019re just going at him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Marty Supreme follows up-and-coming table tennis star Marty Mauser\u2019s journey to become a professional champion, following him on his journey from the Lower East Side to international tournaments. . The sports comedy is loosely based on the career of real table tennis pro Marty Reisman<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Leary made his acting debut in Marty Supreme<\/em> after being one of the iconic moguls on Shark Tank<\/em> for nearly two decades. The business mogul explained that while he was excited to give acting a try, some of his team members weren\u2019t sure if he could make the transition.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tTimoth\u00e9e Chalamet still can\u2019t believe he\u2019s on the cover of a Wheaties box. The actor, 29, addressed his limited-edition Wheaties \u201cMarty Supreme Box\u201d during an appearance on the Wednesday, December 17 edition of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Fallon, 51, beamed as he held up the box, which features a very serious-looking Chalamet as [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201c\u2018Look, Kevin, this is acting. This is a script. This is scripted. You are not a scripted guy. You\u2019re a reality guy. We have built a big franchise with you,\u2019\u201d O\u2019Leary recalled someone from his team saying. \u201cHe said, \u2018I have to be transparent with you \u2026 as your representatives some of us don\u2019t like it. We think you\u2019re going to s*** the bed.\u2019 Those are the words he used.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite the naysayers, O\u2019Leary was adamant he was going to try something new.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I said, Well how do you know I\u2019m going to s*** the bed? How does anybody know anything until I try it?\u2019 Because I think you want to keep your life interesting, you got to go out of your comfort zone,\u201d he reflected, \u201cAnd so they sent the script over.\u201d<\/p>\n

After printing out the script, one of O\u2019Leary\u2019s friends saw paper on the businessman\u2019s deck and decided to read it while watching the sunrise. The pal, who was unfamiliar with Safdie\u2019s work, was captivated by the story.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe says, Kevin, who wrote this? What sick puppy, screwed up, crazy person wrote this?\u2019 I said, \u2018Why are you asking?\u2019 He said, \u2018This is sick. It\u2019s sick, but I can\u2019t stop reading it, and I can\u2019t stop and you have to be this guy, Milton Rockwell,\u2019\u201d he explained. \u201cIt\u2019s crazy \u2026 that got me because here\u2019s some random guy, he [didn\u2019t] know anything about the story, and he was hooked, like, just riveted. And I thought, \u2018S***, this is going to be a good movie.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Still, O\u2019Leary didn\u2019t make it easy for Safdie. When asked if he could meet them in New York to discuss the project, O\u2019Leary countered with an offer to fly to him in for a meeting at his lake house near Toronto.<\/p>\n

\u201cI said, \u2018How about [a] new idea? I\u2019ll send a plane. You get on it, you fly up here, and we read this together on my dock with the ducks going by and the sun setting and rising, peaceful environment,\u201d he recalled. \u201cAnd I thought it was also a bit of a test to see how serious they were, because if they\u2019re going to do that, then they must be serious. So they did it, and they came up.\u201d<\/p>\n
