Kate Winslet<\/a><\/span><\/strong> won\u2019t forget what some adults had to say about her body at a young age.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was a little bit stocky. When I did start taking [acting] much more seriously and got a child agent, I really remember vividly a drama teacher,\u201d Winslet, 50, shared in a sneak peek of the Friday, December 26 episode of BBC Radio 4\u2019s Desert Island Discs<\/i><\/span><\/a>, per multiple outlets<\/span><\/a>. \u201cShe said to me, \u2018Well, darling, you\u2019ll have a career if you\u2019re ready to settle for the fat girl parts.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

After landing roles in Titanic<\/i>, Revolutionary Road<\/i>, The Reader<\/i>, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind<\/i> and countless other films, the Oscar winner has a message for the drama teacher.<\/p>\n

\u201cLook at me now,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s appalling the things people say to children.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tKate Winslet is not afraid to be herself in Hollywood. Winslet, 48, opened up to Hoda Kotb on the Today show about staying true to her identity after more than two decades in the spotlight. \u201cYou know, it\u2019s really interesting how much [the industry] has changed,\u201d she told Kotb, 59, on Monday, February 26, while [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Winslet revealed that she was on and off diets from the age of 15 to 19, adding that \u201ceventually I was barely eating.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was really unhealthy,\u201d she continued. \u201cIt\u2019s the only thing in my life I really regret because you know, long-term, not eating properly or eating and panicking about what you\u2019d eaten or waking up in the morning and the first thing I\u2019d think about is, \u2018Oh my God, do I look fatter, do I look fatter?\u2019 That went on for a really long time.\u201d<\/p>\n

After all these years, Winslet also remembers the words of some of her classmates who made jokes about her appearance.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had a lot of kids tease me at primary school,\u201d she revealed. \u201cThey would call me blubber. I wasn\u2019t even overweight. I just had stocky thighs, and they would lock me in the art cupboard, and they would say, \u2018Blubber\u2019s blubbing in the art cupboard\u2019 and things like that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although Winslet is confident in who she is and how she looks today, she may just spark a conversation about how people speak to women.<\/p>\n

During her experiences in Hollywood, the actress said she was told things as a first-time director that she isn\u2019t sure would be expressed to a man in the same position.<\/p>\n
