Taylor Sheridan<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s Landman<\/em> found a way to call out previous criticism about the scantily clad characters played by Ali Larter<\/strong><\/a> and Michelle Randolph<\/strong> \u2014 and their nearly naked looks on the show.<\/p>\n

During the Sunday, December 21, episode of the hit Paramount+ series, Tommy (Billy Bob Thornton<\/strong>) sees his ex-wife, Angela (Larter), strutting around their shared house<\/a> in a shirt that barely covers her bright yellow bra.<\/p>\n

\u201cCould you please put all your clothes on before you come downstairs?\u201d he asked Angela, who fired back, \u201cOh, it bothers you to see my body?\u201d<\/p>\n

Tommy clarified that it didn\u2019t \u201cbother\u201d him specifically, adding, \u201cBut there\u2019s other people around here.\u201d Angela then asked Tommy\u2019s father (played by Sam Elliott<\/strong>) if he took issue with her attire, which he did not.<\/p>\n

\u201cI give up. I love you both and there\u2019s nothing I can do about that,\u201d Tommy noted when daughter Ainsley (Randolph) walked in wearing a similar outfit. \u201cI f***ing surrender.\u201d<\/p>\n

In Landman<\/em>, which premiered on Paramount+ in November 2024, Thornton played a corporate fixer for an oil titan (Jon Hamm<\/strong>). The West Texas-set drama has life-and-death stakes but its<\/a> Thornton\u2019s scenes with Randolph, who plays his 17-year-old daughter, that went viral for moments such as her talking to her father about her sex rules while walking around his house \u2014 which he shares with two men of similar age \u2014 in bikinis and her underwear.<\/p>\n

\u201cI worked with a dialect coach, a movement coach and an acting coach and I just studied like crazy. I had about a year almost to prep for her,\u201d Randolph, 28, told The Hollywood Reporter<\/em> in December 2024 about her approach to Ainsley. \u201cIt was incredibly helpful to kind of sit with that character. I worked really hard to find ways to justify her behavior and make a full human out of something that doesn\u2019t always seem like what a 17-year-old would say, but people like that exist.\u201d<\/p>\n

First appearing in Sheridan\u2019s 1923<\/em> series, Randolph said Landman<\/em> \u201crequired 10 times more prep\u201d for her.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted to be very careful about the way that Ainsley comes across. There\u2019s only so much that I can control, but you also can control a lot as an actor,\u201d she shared. \u201cAnd just being around Ali [Larter] and Billy [Bob Thornton] and Jacob [Lofland] and being in Texas really helped create this full person that Ainsley is. She has this free essence about her and she\u2019s wild, and I loved every second of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Randolph urged viewers to give Ainsley<\/a> the space to evolve, saying, \u201cShe\u2019s 17 and she\u2019s growing. I think she gets it more than the audience gets to see. There are moments where your realize that she can be, not manipulative, but she knows how to play her dad, and also her mom. She knows how to get what she wants. She loves her family.\u201d<\/p>\n

She concluded: \u201cShe is figuring out who she is and meeting different peers and going to school. She\u2019s not just the bratty young daughter; she is a person. We get to see 5 percent of who Ainsley is. Hopefully as the show goes on, we get to see all of who she is.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAs the man behind Yellowstone and its myriad spinoffs, Taylor Sheridan is one of the most important people at Paramount Network \u2014 but the Yellowstone universe is only one part of his empire. While other super-producers \u2014 Ryan Murphy and Shonda Rhimes, for example \u2014 enlist other writers and directors to work on projects bearing [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Randolph knew Landman<\/em> viewers were confused by her character<\/a> Ainsley\u2019s behavior \u2014 but she had no regrets about how she chose to play her.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s hard to not be aware of it,\u201d she explained. \u201cBut I disassociate and the thing is, I got the script. I read it. I had my moments, my thoughts.\u201d<\/p>\n

Randolph, however, didn\u2019t disagree that Ainsley\u2019s actions could be confusing. \u201cSome of the things that Ainsley has to say are shocking and there were moments where I thought, \u2018I don\u2019t know how I\u2019m going to pull this off,’\u201d she admitted. \u201cI want to find the most human version of this character that I can, and I work really hard at doing that.\u201d<\/p>\n
