Rob Reiner<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s closest friends are rallying around his family in the wake of an unthinkable tragedy \u2014 and they\u2019re doing everything they can to help his children through it, RadarOnline.com<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n

According to sources who spoke to the outlet, longtime friends Billy Crystal<\/strong>, 77, and Albert Brooks<\/strong>, 78, have been \u201cstepping up\u201d to support Reiner\u2019s children after the shocking murders of the legendary director, 78, and his wife, Michele Singer<\/strong><\/a>, 70.<\/p>\n

\u201cRob and Michele were beloved in Hollywood and their friends like Billy Crystal and Albert Brooks are truly like family and fiercely protective,\u201d an insider told RadarOnline.com. \u201cThey\u2019ve absolutely lived up to that.\u201d<\/p>\n

The couple, who had been married for 36 years, shared three children together: Jake<\/strong>, 34, Nick<\/strong>, 32, and Romy<\/strong>, 28. Reiner also has an older daughter, Tracy<\/strong>, 61, whom he adopted.<\/p>\n

As Life & Style<\/em> previously reported, tragedy struck when Reiner and Singer were found stabbed to death in their Los Angeles home earlier this month. Their son Nick was arrested just hours after Romy reportedly discovered her parents\u2019 bodies and has since been charged with two counts of first-degree murder. His arraignment is scheduled for January 7.<\/p>\n

Sources told RadarOnline.com that amid the devastation, Crystal and Brooks have been a steady presence for the family \u2014 particularly for Jake and Romy \u2014 making sure they are not facing the aftermath alone.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are being incredibly strong and have a huge support system they can lean on,\u201d the insider added. \u201cJake and Romy will never be alone as they try to face this,\u201d the source continued. \u201cIt\u2019s of course been a huge shock to the system. This nightmare came out of nowhere for them, but they\u2019ve been surrounded with support since the second they found out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jake and Romy publicly acknowledged that support in an emotional statement shared on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cWords cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day,\u201d the siblings said. \u201cThe horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey weren\u2019t just our parents; they were our best friends,\u201d the statement continued. \u201cWe are grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness and support we have received not only from family and friends but people from all walks of life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Notably, the statement made no mention of their brother Nick or the charges against him.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave,\u201d they concluded.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
