One of our very favorite elements that came from the massive revamp<\/a> of the Chase Sapphire Reserve\u00ae<\/a><\/span> (see rates and fees<\/a>) \u2014 as well as the launch of the Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business\u2120<\/a><\/span> (see rates and fees<\/a>) \u2014 earlier this year was the introduction of Points Boost<\/a>.<\/p>\n

TPG has covered the value of Points Boost multiple times<\/a> in multiple ways<\/a> because it was a new, very valuable way to use your Chase Ultimate Rewards points \u2014 especially at The Edit by Chase Travel\u2120<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, some of those redemptions have recently changed \u2014 though you do still have some time to lock in a redemption.<\/p>\n

As first reported by Frequent Miler<\/a> (and sourced via Reddit<\/a>), Chase has updated some of its language to indicate that Points Boost redemptions are now worth “up to 2x when you book a hotel that’s part of The Edit.” And our test searches already bear out this reality. While some properties have maintained a redemption value of 2 cents per point, others are now at 1.65 cents per point.<\/p>\n

Thankfully, Chase is offering a temporary extension of the previous value, honoring 2 cents per point for all reservations through Dec. 22.<\/p>\n

Here’s what you need to know.<\/p>\n

Overview of Points Boost<\/h2>\n

For those who haven’t yet used this redemption option, Points Boost increases the value of your Chase Ultimate Rewards points to as high as 2 cents each on select flights and hotels booked on the Chase travel site.<\/p>\n

The one downside to Points Boost is that it may not be available for the trip you want, as it’s limited to certain properties and select air itineraries. Additionally, “as high as” 2 cents per point means it won’t always be available at that 2-cents-per-point level.<\/p>\n

However, there was a glorious exception to this variability: The Edit<\/a>, Chase’s collection of higher-tier, hand-selected properties offering additional benefits, such as breakfast for two and a $100 property credit when booked via Chase Travel. Think: High-end properties such as Four Seasons, 1 Hotels and Ritz-Carlton, but also some more affordable brands such as Thompson, JW Marriott and W.<\/p>\n

In addition, the June refresh included a new benefit specifically at these locations. Cardholders can enjoy up to $500 in statement credits<\/a> on prepaid stays of at least two nights at The Edit properties (up to $250 from January to June and up to $250 from July to December for 2025) \u2014 a perk that took effect for longtime cardholders (like us) as of Oct. 26<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Even better? You could book The Edit properties with a combination of cash and your Chase points, which allowed you to pair these statement credits (which are triggered when you pay for at least part of your stay with cash) with Points Boost to redeem your points at 2 cents each for the rest of the stay. In short, it was a pretty fantastic new way to stack using points and perks.<\/p>\n

And while you can still use this stacking strategy, it appears the era of consistent redemption value is over at these properties.<\/p>\n

What the data shows<\/h2>\n

We pulled data for 150 properties across the globe, including in big cities like London, Singapore and Sydney \u2014 along with popular vacation spots like Hawaii, Bora Bora and the Caribbean. Fifty-nine percent of the hotels and resorts we analyzed now show a Points Boost redemption value of just 1.65 cents per point, while 41% have maintained the prior value of 2 cents.<\/p>\n

Take, for example, Hawaii, where we found 19 properties in The Edit available for a three-night stay in March 2025. Just eight of these maintained the value of 2 cents per point \u2014 including the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea<\/a> and The Ritz-Carlton Oahu, Turtle Bay<\/a>. However, the other 11 were showing up at 1.65 cents per point. This means your points are worth 17.5% less at a number of Hawaiian properties, including the Andaz Maui<\/a>.<\/p>\n

That still can be a good redemption \u2014 and still higher than the fixed value you’d get prior to the card’s refresh. However, it is a notable drop from a consistent 2 cents per point.<\/p>\n

That said, there is a short grace period to still utilize the higher redemption level across all properties in The Edit. We received the following statement from a Chase spokesperson:<\/p>\n

“Some of our Chase Travel content marketing the 2x points boost promotion for The Edit remained in market longer than intended. We will proactively honor 2x points value for any customers who book a stay at a property in The Edit through December 22, 2025. Customers will see the points adjustment in their Ultimate Rewards balance. As a reminder the terms outlining the Points Boost program are available here<\/a>.”<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This means you still have a few days to book stays at eligible properties and still lock in a redemption value of 2 cents per point. After Dec. 22, though, your redemptions may offer lower value.<\/p>\n

And while we are glad to now have some notice and a few days to book at the higher level, unfortunately, after that grace period ends, it is possible this may follow a trend we’ve seen before. Consistency and transparency \u2014 with published award charts or fixed reward levels \u2014 create predictability for travelers. Once variable pricing takes effect, it typically makes it more challenging for customers to “save up” for big trips and maximize the value of their points and miles.<\/p>\n

Of course, there are still other ways to maximize Points Boost redemptions. Many airlines are available at up to 2 cents per point, and you can also easily toggle on a filter via Chase Travel to only see flights and hotels available with Points Boost, but from there, you’ll have to do some math to see just how much boost you’re getting.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, our advice remains the same: Earn and burn.<\/p>\n

Credit card issuers and travel loyalty programs will continue to tweak their offerings, and something you see today could be gone (or devalued) tomorrow. If you find a redemption that offers great value for you, grab it.<\/p>\n

We certainly give credit to Chase continuing to honor the redemption value of 2 cents per point through Dec. 22, and many properties will continue to offer that value moving forward. That said, now’s the best time to lock in a Points Boost stay at one of these locations \u2014 to enjoy maximum value from your rewards and a terrific experience at a luxury resort.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
