Erika Jayne blasts ‘incompetent’ Tom Girardi and confirms she has filed for ‘separation’<\/p>\n
\nThe Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, 54, initially filed for divorce from Tom, 86, in November 2020, and the pair were later sued for embezzlement. <\/p>\n
\nIt was later found Erika didn’t participate in “any wrongdoing”, but Girardi was sentenced to seven years in federal prison in June. <\/p>\n
\nDuring an appearance on Watch What Happens Live this week, Erika was asked by a fan why she “hadn’t filed for divorce”, but she clarified: “Oh, I have! You guys have got it so wrong. <\/p>\n
\n“Yes, of course I have. I filed for separation.<\/p>\n
\n“It\u2019s very difficult to get someone who\u2019s incompetent to divorce. <\/p>\n
\n“I have to ask the conservator. It\u2019s just not that easy. You guys, just stop with all that.<\/p>\n
\n“Chill on that.”<\/p>\n
\nBut Erika has no plans to see Girardi anytime soon. <\/p>\n
\nAsked if she had thought “at all about seeing him”, she replied: “I have … no.<\/p>\n
\n“It’s just too much.<\/p>\n
\n“That’s enough. He’s done. It is what it is.”<\/p>\n
\nSix months ago, former attorney Girardi was handed an 87-month jail term for embezzling tens of millions of dollars of settlement money that belonged to his clients, some of whom awaited payment for treatment of severe physical injuries.<\/p>\n
\nUnited States District Judge Josephine L. Staton also ordered Girardi to pay a $35,000 fine and $2,310,247 in restitution.<\/p>\n
\nUnited States Attorney Bill Essayli said: “This self-proclaimed \u2018champion of justice\u2019 was nothing more than a thief and a liar who conned his vulnerable clients out of the millions of dollars. <\/p>\n
\n“My office will vigorously prosecute corrupt lawyers and those who assist them in criminal activities.”<\/p>\n
\nIn 2022, Judge Richard Fruin found there was no evidence Erika participated in “any wrongdoing”.<\/p>\n
\nSpeaking to MailOnline, she said: “It\u2019s a good day.”<\/p>\n
\nWhen asked if she felt “vindicated” by the court ruling and she replied: “Yes, I do.”<\/p>\n
\nAnd when quizzed on what she would say to her critics, she added: “All I asked for was some time and some understanding. And today is a good day.”<\/p>\n
