Brandon Sklenar<\/strong><\/a> recalled inadvertently getting stuck in the middle of his It Ends With Us<\/em><\/a> costars Justin Baldoni<\/strong><\/a> and Blake Lively<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s lawsuit \u2014 and how it led to him receiving frightening online hate.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was a big learning curve for me because even though I had a small part in the film, my visibility shot through the roof,\u201d Sklenar, who played Atlas Corrigan in the 2024 film, told The Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a> in a profile published on Wednesday, December 17.<\/p>\n

The actor, 35, recalled posting an Instagram statement<\/a> during the August 2024 press tour asking for fans to be kinder.<\/p>\n

\u201cColleen [Hoover]<\/strong> and the women of this cast stand for hope, perseverance, and for women choosing a better life for themselves,\u201d Sklener wrote at the time. \u201cVilifying the women who put so much of their heart and soul into making this film because they believe so strongly in its message seems counterproductive and detracts from what this film is about.\u201d<\/p>\n

He pointed out: \u201cIt is, in fact, the opposite of the point. What may or may not have happened behind the scenes does not and hopefully should not detract from what our intentions were in making this film. It\u2019s been disheartening to see the amount of negativity being projected online.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sklener asked his followers at the time<\/a> that \u201cbefore you spread hate on the internet, ask yourself who its helping. Ask yourself if your opinions are based in any fact. Or if you simply want to be part of something. Let\u2019s be part of something better together. A part of a new story being written for women and all people everywhere.\u201d<\/p>\n

His efforts to spread positivity backfired quickly.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wasn\u2019t damning anybody, but I was just like, \u2018Can we focus on the ethos of this whole f***ing movie and not be so hateful to anybody?\u2019\u201d Sklenar said during THR<\/em> interview, referring to the movie\u2019s themes of domestic abuse<\/a> and getting out of a toxic relationship. \u201cI thought it was a nice thing to say, but apparently a lot of people did not feel that way.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tBrandon Sklenar doesn\u2019t have much to say about the drama surrounding It Ends With Us, but he hopes viewers don\u2019t forget the film\u2019s deeper meaning. \u201cIt\u2019s a tough situation,\u201d Skelnar, 34, told The Hollywood Reporter while walking the Vanity Fair Oscars Party red carpet on Sunday, March 2. \u201cI just hope everyone remembers what the [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Sklenar claimed the backlash was almost instantaneous, with people telling him, \u201c\u2018You\u2019re a piece of s***,\u2019 \u2018I hope you die,\u2019 \u2018I hope your career ends,\u2019 things like that.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 1923<\/em> alum noted that his agent begged him to stay offline amid Lively and Baldoni\u2019s public feud, but Sklenar said it was hard to ignore all the chatter.<\/p>\n

\u201cImagine you\u2019re walking down a hallway and there\u2019s a door to a room full of 100,000 people and they\u2019re all saying something about you,\u201d Sklenar said. \u201cYou tell me you\u2019re not going to put your ear to the door?\u201d<\/p>\n

It Ends With Us<\/em>, which is the first book in Hoover\u2019s two-part series<\/a> adapted for film, was highly anticipated by readers and moviegoers alike. However, it was what happened behind the scenes that has since made it so infamous.<\/p>\n

Lively, who served as a producer and was the leading lady, accused director and costar Baldoni of sexual harassment following the movie\u2019s release, filing a lawsuit against him<\/a> in December 2024. (Lively played Lily Bloom, while Baldoni portrayed her abusive partner Ryle Kincaid.)<\/p>\n

Baldoni denied the allegations and filed a countersuit in January, asking for $400 million in damages.<\/p>\n

After trading public jabs and allegations for months, a judge dismissed Baldoni\u2019s countersuit<\/a> against Lively. The original lawsuit is still ongoing with a trial set<\/a> to take place in New York in March 2026.<\/p>\n

After starring in 2025\u2019s Drop<\/em> alongside Meghann Fahy<\/strong><\/a>, Sklenar teamed up with Amanda Seyfried<\/strong><\/a> and Sydney Sweeney<\/strong><\/a> for The Housemaid<\/em><\/a>, which hits theaters this week.<\/p>\n

While working on The Housemaid, Sklenar said he bonded with Sweeney, 29, over their shared experience of unwanted attention<\/a> \u2014 like the drama surrounding It Ends With Us<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cSydney\u2019s been through her fair share [with that],\u201d Sklenar told THR<\/em>. \u201cAnd we\u2019ve spoken a bit about it. You really just have to block it out and not let it in.\u201d<\/p>\n
