Gabriel is missing from most of Emily in Paris<\/em><\/a> season 5 \u2014 but what caused Lucas Bravo<\/strong>\u2018s onscreen absence?<\/p>\n

Netflix released season 5 on Thursday, December 18, with Gabriel briefly visiting Rome<\/a> before returning to Paris. He became frustrated by his restaurant and ultimately took a new job opportunity that required him to work on a boat far from everyone else. Later in the season, Gabriel resurfaced briefly to offer Emily (Lily Collins<\/strong>) some advice before leaving again in what appeared to be a goodbye scene.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to go on a journey,\u201d director and executive producer Andrew Fleming<\/strong> exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em>. \u201cAt no point was Luke ever leaving the show permanently.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fleming clarified why Bravo<\/a>, 37, wasn\u2019t around as much as usual. \u201cHe did have a commitment. He had a movie that he was doing,\u201d he noted. \u201cSo we worked around that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tLucas Bravo\u2018s criticism about his character Gabriel\u2019s story on Emily in Paris has made viewers question the show\u2019s plans for him in season 5. The Netflix series, which debuted in 2020, originally centered around Emily\u2019s (Lily Collins) move from the U.S. to France, and the challenges that came with that. Emily subsequently found herself caught [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In the final scene of the season, viewers see Gabriel writing a letter to Emily where he made his feelings for her known. He invited her to visit him in Greece, which left the hit Netflix series on a cliffhanger about the fan-favorite couple\u2019s future.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s important. He\u2019s part of the DNA of the show,\u201d Fleming explained to Us<\/em>. \u201cWhen he and Emily are in a scene together, something undefinable happens. They have this chemistry. They do. There\u2019s just something about the two of them that\u2019s very watchable.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cLooking ahead, they\u2019re part of each other\u2019s journey. Who is to say who Emily is going to end up with, but Emily and Gabriel are going to interact with each other. Stuff is going to happen [but] I really can\u2019t say anything about what\u2019s going to happen next season.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bravo has captivated audiences as Gabriel<\/a> since Emily in Paris<\/em> premiered in 2020. The show follows an American named Emily (Collins) who moves to Paris for a job and ends up in numerous love triangles with Gabriel.<\/p>\n

Fans were previously worried about Gabriel\u2019s future on the show after Bravo teased his absence in promotional material.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would love to tell you something,\u201d he told E! News<\/em> in October. \u201cI like the fact that I\u2019m not in the trailer and that it creates a conversation, and I\u2019m gonna keep the conversation running. I won\u2019t say anything.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bravo joked about his fate on screen, adding, \u201cI don\u2019t know. I\u2019m not in it.\u201d<\/p>\n

More recently, Bravo got brutally honest about certain \u201cobjectifying\u201d interactions with Emily in Paris<\/em> fans.<\/a><\/p>\n

During a December episode of the \u201cChicks in the Office\u201d podcast, Bravo reflected on his experience being recognized in public, saying, \u201cPeople don\u2019t freak out over me. It\u2019s an idea we have with fame and everything but I think what you project is what you get. If you don\u2019t invite people in \u2014 with your social media for example \u2014 then when I run into people on the street, they are very respectful.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bravo noted that most of his run-ins with fans have been pleasant.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey connect with my work and they recognize me but they talk to me like you would talk to a person you don\u2019t know,\u201d he explained. \u201cThat makes a huge difference because then I am not overexposing myself on socials. There is no freaking out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bravo was asked if he was ever treated as if he<\/a> is his character, to which he replied, \u201cNo but sometimes there\u2019s that thing that people do that I really [don\u2019t enjoy].\u201d He clarified that \u201crespect is very important\u201d to him when meeting people.<\/p>\n
