Six months after she revealed the controversial cover art for her latest album, <\/span>Man\u2019s Best Friend<\/span><\/i>, singer <\/span>Sabrina Carpenter<\/b> is finally opening up about her reasoning behind the choice.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The album cover, which depicts Carpenter on her hands and knees as a mystery man grabs a fistful of her hair from above, was released in June, causing quite a stir online.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Before the album itself was even released, online discourse about whether or not the image was sexist or a \u201charmful depiction of women\u201d had taken off.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Now, in a new interview with <\/span>Variety<\/span><\/i> magazine, Carpenter is defending her artistic choice.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIt was about how people try to control women, and how I felt emotionally yanked around by these relationships that I had, and how much power you\u2019re allowing yourself to give them,\u201d Carpenter explained in <\/span>the interview<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Even with controversy swirling this summer, Carpenter kept her cool.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIt meant one thing to me and 100 things to other people, and I was looking at it going, \u2018That\u2019s valid. Mine\u2019s valid. What\u2019s for dinner?’\u201d Carpenter said.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cNot to bypass the weight that it did carry for some people,\u201d she clarified, \u201c[But] I saw it and was like, \u2018That is a great point. It wasn\u2019t the point I was trying to make.’\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Carpenter also released an alternate, more \u201cPG\u201d album cover later on, but used the announcement to poke further fun at the controversy.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI signed some copies of Man\u2019s Best Friend for you guys & here is a new alternate cover approved by God,\u201d she joked in an <\/span>Instagram post<\/span><\/a> at the time.<\/span><\/p>\n When asked about the alternate cover by <\/span>Variety<\/span><\/i>, she waved the situation off saying, \u201cOh, girl, I just wanted to take more pictures!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Regardless of the controversy, the album debuted at <\/span>number one on the <\/span>Billboard<\/span><\/i> charts<\/span><\/a> and resulted in <\/span>six Grammy nominations<\/span><\/a> for Carpenter for the upcoming 2026 ceremony, marking a highly successful moment in her career.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
