The Daredevil actor married Samantha Thomas – with whom he has a son and a daughter – in September 2018 and he joked he spends so much time away working that the producer has grown “way too close” to their family pet.<\/p>\n
He told People magazine: “My wife and our dog have a very effed-up relationship. They’re way too close.<\/p>\n
“Because I’ve been working a lot and I’ve been away, our dog has definitely replaced me in the family<\/p>\n
Charlie’s latest film Merv follows a recently-separated couple who take their dog on a trip to raise his spirits, and the romantic comedy inspired the 42-year-old star to get his own furry friend.<\/p>\n
\nHe laughed: “And a goldfish. Don’t forget the goldfish.”<\/p>\n
\nBefore finding fame, Charlie hung out in Los Angeles with a bunch of other aspiring British actors including Andrew Garfield, Robert Pattinson and Eddie Redmayne and he previously claimed he thought their friend Jamie Dornan was “too good looking” to make it in Hollywood.<\/p>\n
\nSpeaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live! earlier this year, he said: “My memory back then was that Andrew\u2026 he was dangerous. We were worried about him.<\/p>\n
\n“And then the joke \u2014 oh, he\u2019ll probably kill me for saying this \u2014 the joke was Jamie went through a very dry patch at one point, and we genuinely thought it was because he was too good looking.<\/p>\n
\n“I would say, \u2018It\u2019s just not \u2014 you\u2019re not believable! It\u2019s not believable. You can\u2019t get cast in anything!\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n
\nJamie would later have his huge breakthrough role in the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise, and has appeared in the likes of The Tourist and Belfast.<\/p>\n
\nHowever, fame and success didn’t necessarily come easy for the entire group, and they were convinced it was a “stupid dream” early in their careers.<\/p>\n
\nCharlie added: “I have an amazing photo on my computer of us on the beach at Venice, all unemployed, all broke, waiting for the next audition.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cBasically waiting for someone to tell us we were talentless so we could just go home and let go of this stupid dream.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nAnd they would often find themselves auditioning for the same parts.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: “We\u2019d all put each other on tape, and help each other, and then be like, \u2018Did you hear anything? I didn\u2019t hear anything. Did you hear anything?\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n
