During an episode of Today\u2019s<\/em><\/span>\u00a0Je<\/em>nna and Friends<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>Jenna Bush Hager<\/b> sat down with special guest <\/span>Scarlett Johansson<\/b>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n As the two chatted, they began to discuss marriage and the idea of changing your last name to match your spouse.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Johansson, who married her husband <\/span>Colin Jost<\/b> in 2020, stands by not having changed her name and said that even her mother-in-law strongly agreed with the decision.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Bush Hager then explained her personal reasons for wanting to take on the last name of her husband, <\/span>Henry Chase Hager<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n People\u2019s preconceived notions about her family after the presidencies of her father, <\/span>George W. Bush<\/b> and her grandfather, <\/span>George H.W. Bush <\/b>led her to want to distance herself from the name.<\/span><\/p>\n When marrying her husband, Bush Hager was eager to finally escape the name and carve out her own reputation as Jenna Hager.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI was a teacher in inner city D.C., [\u2026] and I went by Miss Jenna because I didn\u2019t really want them to know, although, of course, they knew. And so I was, like, ready to go by Hager,\u201d Bush Hager said in a <\/span>clip from the show<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n Then, when she began anchoring the <\/span>TODAY<\/span><\/i> show, the network asked her to add Bush back into her name so viewers could more easily recognize her, since she had published a book under the name Jenna Bush.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThey were like \u2018people may not know who you are,\u2019 which is so stupid because I\u2019ve been here for 15 years, you know?
