Scrub in! The cast of ER<\/em><\/a> took the doctor drama genre to the next level when the show premiered in September 1994.<\/p>\n The NBC series ran for 15 seasons, ending in 2009, and helped launch many of its stars\u2019 careers<\/a>, including George Clooney<\/strong><\/a>, who played Dr. Doug Ross. The Ocean\u2019s Eleven<\/em><\/a> star\u2019s onscreen love interest Julianna Margulies<\/strong><\/a> (who played nurse Carol Hathaway) was also launched to super stardom after her performance on the procedural.<\/p>\n Noah Wyle<\/strong><\/a> (Dr. John Carter), Anthony Edwards<\/strong><\/a> (Dr. Mark Greene), Eriq La Salle<\/strong> (Dr. Peter Benton) and Sherry Stringfield<\/strong> (Dr. Susan Lewis) rounded out the original six cast members. Fans were hooked from beginning to end as the residents became doctors and nurses navigating Chicago\u2019s County General Hospital<\/a> emergency room. The characters\u2019 love lives, heartbreaks and personal ups and downs were also hot topics from week to week.<\/p>\n With the addition of Laura Innes<\/strong> (Dr. Kerry Weaver), Maura Tierney<\/strong><\/a> (Dr. Abby Lockhart), Alex Kingston<\/strong> (Dr. Elizabeth Corday) and Goran Visnjic<\/strong> (Dr. Luka Kovac), viewers had even more intrigue and hospital drama to keep track of.<\/p>\n Plus, there was comedic relief from Dearon \u201cDeezer D\u201d Thompson<\/a> (as nurse Malik McGrath) along with his fellow nurses Laura Cer\u00f3n<\/strong> (Chuny Marquez) and Yvette Freeman<\/strong> (Haleh Adams), who helped keep the emergency room running smoothly.<\/p>\n The show was a massive success, earning a record-setting 124 Emmy<\/a> nominations, winning a total of 23 trophies, including one for Outstanding Drama Series.<\/p>\n More than a decade after ER<\/em> came to an end<\/a>, some of the show\u2019s biggest names reunited for a good cause<\/a> in April 2021, sending fans into a frenzy. The cast joined forces in honor of Earth Day to benefit the Waterkeeper Alliance during a virtual video hangout hosted by Stars in the House<\/em>.<\/p>\n However, the former costars revealed at the time that they aren\u2019t interested in doing a TV reboot<\/a> of their hit series.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen you look at the show, it\u2019d be hard to say that we could do it [again] at the level that we did it,\u201d Clooney said. \u201cBecause boy, I\u2019ve actually been watching it a bit because my wife\u2019s been watching it, which is very odd. And I have to say, it\u2019s such great television. It\u2019s hard to catch lightning again.\u201d<\/p>\n Margulies echoed Clooney\u2019s sentiments<\/a>, adding: \u201cYou can\u2019t capture lightning in a bottle twice. I think you have to leave what was so beautiful and move on, because it just feels cheap\u2026 It would cheapen it for me.\u201d<\/p>\n
