{"id":210782,"date":"2025-12-12T17:49:11","date_gmt":"2025-12-12T17:49:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/entertainment.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2025\/12\/12\/al-roker-shares-the-secret-behind-his-100-pound-weight-loss\/"},"modified":"2025-12-12T17:49:11","modified_gmt":"2025-12-12T17:49:11","slug":"al-roker-shares-the-secret-behind-his-100-pound-weight-loss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/entertainment.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2025\/12\/12\/al-roker-shares-the-secret-behind-his-100-pound-weight-loss\/","title":{"rendered":"Al Roker Shares the Secret Behind His 100-Pound Weight Loss"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Breakfast may be the most important meal of the day and <\/span><b>Al Roker<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> fully embraces that philosophy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TODAY<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> weatherman appeared on the cover of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">People<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s Spring Health issue, where he opened up about the daily habits that have helped him maintain his 100-pound weight loss more than two decades after his 2001 gastric bypass surgery.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.today.com\/health\/diet-fitness\/al-roker-breakfast-workout-100-pound-weight-loss-rcna248656\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the interview<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Roker revealed that he sticks to four simple diet and exercise practices each day.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cModeration rather than deprivation is better in the long run,\u201d said Al.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each morning for Roker begins with 10 minutes of weight training using the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.today.com\/specials\/start-today\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Start TODAY app<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u201cIt\u2019s not so much to bulk up, but to keep your bones strong, keep your flexibility, which is important as you age,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For exercise he says, \u201cMy mantra is, \u2018Something is better than nothing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Strength is also top of mind for the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2025\/12\/12\/metro\/al-roker-weather-hunters-tv-series\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">proud grandfather<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Roker told <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">People<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that he can currently pick up his 2-year-old granddaughter, Sky, but knows that won\u2019t always be the case. \u201cBut you know, in a couple of years she\u2019s going to be a bigger load. So \u2018Grampa\u2019 wants to be able to carry her up and down the stairs,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So what does breakfast look like for him?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Roker keeps things simple and consistent: yogurt, granola and often a banana. For convenience, he also preps his High-Protein Egg Bites in advance for an easy grab-and-go option.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Daily movement is another non-negotiable for the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3rd Hour of TODAY<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> co-host. After his morning weights, Roker always follows up with 20 minutes on the treadmill. When the weather is warm, he prefers walking 30 to 45 minutes in Central Park.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His 10,000-steps-a-day target isn\u2019t so much about hitting a strict benchmark \u2014 it\u2019s simply a motivating, memorable number. \u201cI like the number, and it feels good when I hit it,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last year, All spoke to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.prevention.com\/weight-loss\/a62894168\/al-roker-shares-weight-loss-maintenance-tip\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prevention<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> about his complicated relationship with portion control.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI guess what I\u2019ve come to [realize with] my relationship with food, which has happened over a period of time, is that I\u2019ve learned about portions,\u201d he explained. \u201cThe problem had been for a long time, for me, it\u2019d be one thing if you stopped at a scoop of H\u00e4agen-Dazs, but no, we finished the pint!
