Andy Dick<\/strong>\u2019s public outbursts and persistent legal problems have made him a notorious figure in the comedy world.<\/p>\n

Dick made a name for himself as a cast member on 1990s cult classic The Ben Stiller Show<\/em>, where he appeared in sketches with future comedy titans like Janeane Garofalo<\/strong>, Bob Odenkirk<\/strong> and Ben Stiller<\/strong><\/a>. He later starred in his own sketch show for MTV and appeared in hit movies such as Reality Bites<\/em>, The Cable Guy<\/em> and Zoolander<\/em>.<\/p>\n

However, the Dancing With the Stars<\/em> alum\u2019s career accomplishments have been often overshadowed by his struggle with addiction<\/a> and numerous legal battles. In November 2022, The Los Angeles Times<\/em><\/a> reported that Dick had to register as a sex offender after being convicted of groping a delivery driver.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe main thing that I\u2019ve struggled with over the years, as an actor and really as a person, is the abuse of drugs and alcohol,\u201d he admitted in a 2025 video for The Artists Project LA<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tComedian Andy Dick has no interest in seeking professional help after his reported overdose. \u201cWhen you say professional, should I call Dr. Drew again? Do I need help? Do we all need help?\u201d Dick, 59, said in a video obtained by TMZ on Thursday, December 11. \u201cI\u2019m surrounded by my two friends, [and] it would [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Andy Dick Has Struggled With Addiction<\/h2>\n

The Reality Bites<\/em> star has been arrested multiple times for drug-related offenses. He once estimated that he\u2019d been in and out of rehab at least 20 times.<\/p>\n

Dick told The Artists Project<\/em> in 2025 that he finally was \u201cin recovery [and] I have a lot of months behind me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHopefully many, many more years ahead of me,\u201d he added. \u201cIt\u2019s been a long, rough, up and down, winding, inside-out, tumbly rocky road for me. \u2026 My main advice [that] I give to people is keep going, don\u2019t give up if you fall off the horse [and then] get back on it and go for it.\u201d<\/p>\n

In December 2025, Dick was administered Narcan medicine \u2014 which is used to reverse the effects of an opioid \u2014 when he reportedly overdosed<\/a> on the streets of Los Angeles. A spokesperson for the L.A. Fire Department told TMZ<\/a> that they responded to a call for \u201can overdose involving a 59-year-old man.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dick later told the outlet that he was \u201c100% fine,\u201d<\/a> adding: \u201cI don\u2019t mind doing some crack every now and then.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked if he planned to go back to rehab, Dick responded: \u201cF*** no! No, I\u2019m not going.\u201d<\/p>\n

Andy Dick Competed on \u2018Dancing With the Stars\u2019<\/h2>\n

Dick joined the cast of Dancing With the Stars<\/em> for season 16 in 2013. He was partnered with Sharna Burgess<\/strong> and they placed seventh overall.<\/p>\n

When his casting was announced, Dick publicly pledged to stay sober throughout the season.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had to have a meeting with [production]. I think they basically just wanted me to show up not drunk,\u201d he told Entertainment Tonight<\/em> in 2013. \u201cEverybody seems concerned. In fact, later on today I have a meeting with my therapist, and I have a case manager believe or not.\u201d<\/p>\n

Andy Dick Is a Father of 3<\/h2>\n

Andy Dick and his first wife, Ivone Kowalczyk<\/strong>, welcomed a son, Lucas Astrom, when the comedian was 21 years old. The couple divorced in 1990.<\/p>\n

Dick was also in a relationship with Lena Sved<\/strong>, and they shared two children: Meg and Jacob.<\/p>\n

Following a stint in treatment, Dick told Vice<\/em><\/a> in 2016 that his son Jacob\u2019s own addiction battle helped inspire him to pursue sobriety.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Jacob] was going crazy from speed, trying to set things on fire. I was drinking heavily, saying, \u2018That kid needs help!\u2019 Three months into his sobriety, it hit me hard that I\u2019m an asshole,\u201d Dick told the outlet. \u201cI couldn\u2019t even come to terms with what a dick I was. I was obviously the one with the real problem.\u201d<\/p>\n

The actor revealed, \u201cI made a deal with him that I would stay in treatment as long as he did. He not only completed treatment, he works at the clinic as a technician.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meg works as a freelance video editor<\/a> and announced<\/a> in November 2025 that she is expecting a baby with her partner, Branden Donovan<\/strong>. Her half-brother, Jacob has described himself<\/a> as a \u201cproud father of two wonderful daughters.\u201d<\/p>\n

Andy shared via Instagram<\/a> in 2017 that his son Lucas launched his own gaming startup called TripDik. He married his wife<\/a>, Sofia<\/strong>, in 2018.<\/p>\n

Andy Dick Has Been Arrested Numerous Times<\/h2>\n

The comedian has been notorious throughout his career for his run-ins with the law.<\/p>\n

Dick\u2019s first major brush with police occurred in 1999 when he was arrested<\/a> on suspicion of possession of cocaine, cannabis and drug paraphernalia and driving under the influence after allegedly ramming his car into a utility pole in Hollywood. Those charges were dismissed when he took part in a drug diversion program.<\/p>\n

In July 2008, Dick pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery and marijuana possession<\/a> after allegedly pulling down a teenage girl\u2019s top. He was ordered to serve<\/a> three years probation and wear an alcohol-monitoring bracelet for one year.<\/p>\n

More legal trouble followed in January 2010 when Dick was accused of groping a bartender and a patron at a Huntington, West Virginia, establishment. A grand jury indicted Dick<\/a> on two counts of first-degree sexual abuse, though charges were eventually dismissed<\/a> when Dick completed a pretrial diversion program.<\/p>\n

Dick continued to have significant legal trouble throughout the 2010s. He pleaded not guilty<\/a> to one count of misdemeanor sexual battery in October 2019, following accusations that he groped an Uber driver in West Hollywood. The Los Angeles Times<\/em><\/a> reported that Dick was convicted in November 2022 after a two week trial and ordered to register as a sex offender. (Dick was also sentenced to 90 days in jail and 12 months of probation for the offense.)<\/p>\n

Andy Dick Came Out as Bisexual in 2009<\/h2>\n

Dick was romantically linked to his Surreal Life<\/em> costar Brande Roderick<\/strong> around the time they filmed the VH1 show in 2003.<\/p>\n

He opened up about his sexuality while appearing on The Tyra Banks Show<\/em> in 2009 by saying that he identifies as bisexual.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll try anything,\u201d he told host Tyra Banks. \u201cI really have tried everything, except nothing with animals. There\u2019s only room for one animal \u2013 that would be me.\u201d<\/p>\n

He went on, \u201cI say, \u2018I\u2019m bi, my love knows no gender,\u2019 and the straight community says, \u2018Oh right, that\u2019s just a cover-up \u2013 you\u2019re gay!\u2019 And the gay community says, \u2018Yeah right, that\u2019s just a cover-up \u2013 you\u2019re gay.\u2019 They both want to push me gay.\u201d<\/p>\n

Andy Dick Has Had Notorious Public Outbursts<\/h2>\n

Dick\u2019s two appearances on Comedy Central Roasts went down in infamy. In 2005, he pretended to be roast honoree Pamela Anderson<\/strong>\u2019s plastic surgeon and groped her breasts<\/a> on stage.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is just a clinical adjustment,\u201d Dick claimed as Anderson groped her breasts.<\/p>\n

When Dick told the audience that Anderson couldn\u2019t \u201cfeel any of this,\u201d she shot back: \u201cI can so!\u201d<\/p>\n

At the next year\u2019s Comedy Central Roast of William Shatner<\/strong>, Dick caused a commotion by licking the faces of panelists Farrah Fawcett<\/strong> and Carrie Fisher<\/strong> during his performance.<\/p>\n

Two weeks after former Seinfeld<\/em> star Michael Richards<\/strong> landed in hot water for a racist tirade<\/a> at L.A. comedy club The Laugh Factory, Dick was thrown off stage at the nearby Improv in 2006 for using a racial slur after an improvised set with comedian Ian Bagg<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Dick told The Los Angeles Times<\/em><\/a> that he was sorry for making \u201ca joke about a subject that is not funny.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIn an attempt to make light of a serious subject, I have offended a lot of people, and I am sorry for my insensitivity,\u201d he conceded. \u201cI wish to apologize to Ian, to the club and its patrons and to anyone who was hurt or offended by my remark.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jimmy Kimmel<\/strong> had Dick escorted off the set<\/a> of his late night show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!<\/em>, in February 2007 for repeatedly touching fellow guest Ivanka Trump<\/strong>. Kimmel initially restrained Dick himself before having security take the comedian away.<\/p>\n

\u201cAndy did a segment, he was a little out of it. [When Ivanka] came out, he wanted a big, wet kiss,\u201d Kimmel told Extra<\/em><\/a>. \u201cIt was time for Andy to go, so I escorted him out by his feet \u2026 He always makes me a little uncomfortable, you have no idea what he\u2019s going to do next.\u201d<\/p>\n

More recently, Dick was fired from the independent movie Raising Buchanan<\/em> in October 2017 over accusations that he groped and tried to kiss multiple staff members, according to The Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t grope anybody,\u201d Dick told the publication at the time. \u201cI might have kissed somebody on the cheek to say goodbye and then licked them. That\u2019s my thing \u2014 I licked Carrie Fisher at a roast. It\u2019s me being funny. I\u2019m not trying to sexually harass people.\u201d<\/p>\n

That same month, Dick was fired from a second movie \u2014 this time, horror comedy \u200b\u200bVampire Dad<\/em> \u2014 for \u201cmultiple, flagrant acts of improper conduct and inappropriate contact with several crew members,\u201d producer Kathryn Moseley<\/strong> alleged.<\/p>\n

Dick responded to the fresh accusations by telling The Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a> that he \u201covertook [his] medication.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI took too many Xanax and I was a bit loopy \u2026 I won\u2019t do it anymore,\u201d he said. \u201cI won\u2019t lick anyone\u2019s face anymore. We have an agreement.\u201d<\/p>\n

Andy Dick Had a Physical Fight With \u2018Newsradio\u2019 Costar<\/h2>\n

Dick\u2019s beef with former Newsradio<\/em> costar Jon Lovitz<\/strong> started when the latter joined the NBC sitcom\u2019s cast following Phil Hartman<\/strong>\u2019s murder. (Brynn Hartman<\/strong> killed her husband and then herself at their Los Angeles home in March 1998.)<\/p>\n

Like Dick, Brynn struggled with her sobriety and he later admitted to 20\/20<\/em><\/a> that he gave her cocaine at a 1997 Christmas party.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was already in relapse mode, which I didn\u2019t even know she had a problem [with] at all in the first place,\u201d Dick told the ABC News series.<\/p>\n

According to Lopez, he butted heads with Dick on the set of Newsradio<\/em>. Speaking to Page Six<\/em><\/a>, Lovitz recalled once telling his costar that they wouldn\u2019t have had to work together \u201cif [Dick] hadn\u2019t given Brynn that cocaine.\u201d (Lovitz said he eventually apologized for the comment.)<\/p>\n

Lovitz told the same outlet in 2007 that Dick approached him at a West Hollywood restaurant and said: \u201cI put the \u2018Phil Hartman hex\u2019 on you \u2013 you\u2019re the next one to die.\u201d<\/p>\n

The two men eventually had a physical fight at the Laugh Factory in July 2007 when Lovitz demanded an apology from Dick.<\/p>\n

\u201cJon picked Andy up by the head and smashed him into the bar four or five times, and blood started pouring out of his nose,\u201d Laugh Factory owner Jamie Masada<\/strong> told Page Six<\/em>.<\/p>\n
