Teyana Taylor was surprised by her nomination<\/p>\n
\nThe 35-year-old star has always had lofty career ambitions – but she was shocked to earn a Golden Globe Award nomination for her performance in One Battle After Another, the Paul Thomas Anderson-directed action film.<\/p>\n
\nTeyana told Extra: “I knew I wanted to change the world somehow. I knew I wanted to do great things, but never would I ever would have thought that I\u2019d be, like, sitting here nominated.”<\/p>\n
\nThe actress admits that it’s “kind of cute” to be called a Golden Globe nominee.<\/p>\n
\nTeyana also recalled watching the nominations coming in live. <\/p>\n
\nShe shared: “It\u2019s crazy cause the night before, I had got my feet and nails done and I was falling asleep on my couch and I remember, like, you know, ‘I\u2019m going to sleep through it. Maybe they just shake me, you know, if I got nominated\u2026\u2019 Out of all times, my body just wakes up.”<\/p>\n
\nTeyana actually got a call from her team while she was watching a delayed version of the Golden Globe nominations.<\/p>\n
\nShe recalled: “I said, \u2018Wait, what?\u2019 It was so cute how it happened and how I found out.”<\/p>\n
\nMeanwhile, Teyana previously confessed to being a “sponge” around her A-list co-stars.<\/p>\n
\nThe actress starred alongside the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, and Regina Hall in One Battle After Another, and Tayana admitted that she consciously tried to learn from her co-stars.<\/p>\n
\nShe told The Hollywood Reporter: “Imagine having these legends for teachers.<\/p>\n
\n“You think I\u2019m about to fall asleep in class? No. I\u2019m going to open that notebook, pen to pad. I\u2019m here to be a sponge. Even when I\u2019m teaching, I\u2019m a student. And I\u2019m a straight-A student.”<\/p>\n
\nPaul Thomas Anderson relished the experience of working with Teyana, too, describing the actress as a “special” talent.<\/p>\n
\nThe acclaimed filmmaker explained: “When we did our costume fittings and camera tests, a type of metamorphosis happened. It\u2019s the dancer energy that she brings. <\/p>\n
\n“When the costume comes on and the situation is authentic, she really lights up and starts to go. Early on, we shot her running at full speed at sundown. I think it\u2019s when the crew realised we were working with someone special who was going to thrill us.”<\/p>\n
