But as they say \u2026 timing is everything,\u201d Ackles, 45, shared via Twitter<\/a> on Saturday, June 3.<\/p>\n The CW canceled The Winchesters<\/em> after one season in May amid major changes at The CW<\/a> as the network tries to become profitable. The writer\u2019s strike<\/a> was another bump in the road for the spinoff, which was executive produced by Jensen, Danneel Ackles<\/strong><\/a> (n\u00e9e Harris) and Robbie Thompson<\/strong>.<\/p>\n \u201cWith a massive Network shift coupled with an industry strike \u2026 welp \u2026 that\u2019s some unfortunate timing,\u201d the Texas native, who narrated the series as Dean Winchester, added. \u201cSleep well dear @WinchestersOnCW \u2026 until we meet again. Somewhere down the road. \ud83d\ude4f\ud83c\udffc.\u201d<\/p>\n While Supernatural, which ran for 15 seasons, followed Dean and Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki<\/strong><\/a>), the prequel series focused on their parents \u2014 John Winchester (Drake Rodger<\/strong>) and Mary Campbell (Meg Donnelly<\/strong>) in the 1970s.<\/p>\n Rodger, Donnelly and Jojo Fleites<\/strong> (who played Carlos Cervantez) addressed the status of the series at a Supernatural<\/em> convention in Chicago on Saturday, echoing Jensen\u2019s statement.<\/p>\n \u201cUnfortunately, we will not be doing season 2 at this time. Yeah, they exhausted the options,\u201d Rodger, 24, said, according to social media footage. \u201cThe entire campaign #SaveTheWinchesters, #RenewTheWinchesters \u2026 the love was felt. It\u2019s not that we didn\u2019t know what it meant to people, but to see it on that scale all at once was incredible and really, really touched my heart and I know the entire cast\u2019s hearts.\u201d<\/p>\n The California native added via Instagram<\/a>, \u201cTo say, I\u2019m nothing but grateful to have had this opportunity is an understatement. Having been a fan of supernatural, the chance to step onto our set and into this universe every day for the last year felt like dream I hoped would never end.\u201d<\/p>\n He thanked the fans as well as the cast and crew. \u201cI have nothing but total and complete gratitude for you and this experience we were blessed with.
