The 40-year-old actress branded the right-wing activist “hateful” on Instagram after he was shot dead at the age of 31 on September 10 during a campus debating session with students.<\/p>\n
Speaking to Who What Wear magazine, she said: “I\u2019m not f****** apologising for that. I mean, for f***\u2019s sake, I commented on one thing.<\/p>\n
“I said something that was based on actual reality and actual footage and actual quotes. What I said was pretty damn factual, and I\u2019m free to have an opinion, of course.”<\/p>\n
However, she did make a post in the wake of her original comment, in which she urged people to remember the concept of “nuance”.<\/p>\n
\nShe wrote at the time: “We’re forgetting the nuance of humanity.<\/p>\n
\n“I can get angry about misogyny and racist rhetoric and ALSO very much agree that Charlie Kirk’s murder was absolutely disturbing and deplorable in every way imaginable.<\/p>\n
\n“No one should have to experience this level of violence. This country is grieving too many senseless and violent deaths and shootings.<\/p>\n
\n“Can we agree on that at least?”<\/p>\n
\nNow, the Mamma Mia star has explained in the new interview that she shared the statement to make sure she wasn’t being taken out of context.<\/p>\n
\nShe added: “Thank God for Instagram. I was able to give some clarity, and it was about getting my voice back because I felt like it had been stolen and recontextualised \u2013 which is what people do, of course.”<\/p>\n
\nMeanwhile, Amanda insisted she usually tries to “stay out of drama”, and sympathises with the amount of attention and criticism The Housemaid co-star Sydney Sweeney gets on social media.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: “If social media was the way it is now when I was in my 20s, I don’t know how I would have fared.<\/p>\n
\n“I stay out of drama. I try to stay out of the fray, but anywhere she goes, she’s in the fray, and that’s not necessarily up to her.”<\/p>\n
