Lewis Gilmour of the Santa Monica Police Department, officers arrived to find Sykes suffering from \u201csignificant injuries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Members of the Santa Monica Fire Department performed CPR, but the injuries proved too severe.<\/p>\n<p>Sykes was pronounced dead on the scene, and his 31-year-old son, Micah Sykes, was arrested.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBased on the preliminary investigation, detectives believe this was an isolated incident contained within the household,\u201d Gilmour said, according to the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/12\/09\/us-news\/opera-singer-jubilant-sykes-killed-in-santa-monica-home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">New York Post<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Opera singer Jubilant Sykes ID&#039;d as man killed in Santa Monica; son in custody\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qKCizs1DHtw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Sykes was nominated for a Best Classical Album Grammy in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Over the course of his iconic career, he performed at some of the world\u2019s best-known venues, including Carnegie Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, and the Kennedy Center.<\/p>\n<p>A longtime neighbor who was living in a rental property owned by Jubilant alleged that Micah Sykes had a history or erratic behavior.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just devastating. Unbelievable. Unbelievable. He was a little weird,\u201d the neighbor said of the son, who was living at home with his parents in the years leading up to the alleged attack.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had been warned that something like he was on drugs, but it was more like something mentally was not there,\u201d the neighbor added (via the <em>Post<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was laying right there on the ground one night, sleeping,\u201d the neighbor continued, indicating the street near Sykes\u2019 home. \u201cLike something \u2014 something was not right.
