The Hunting Wives<\/em> is coming back for season 2<\/a> \u2014 but is everyone returning after those book changes?<\/p>\n

Based on May Cobb<\/strong>\u2018s novel of the same name, the hit Netflix series follows Sophie (Brittany Snow<\/strong>) as she finds herself wrapped up in socialite Margo\u2019s (Malin \u00c5kerman<\/strong>) orbit. Sophie befriends Margo\u2019s circle of housewives, but their dangerous secrets lead to a shocking murder with Sophie as the prime suspect.<\/p>\n

In addition to \u00c5kerman and Snow, the show starred Katie Lowes, Dermot Mulroney, Evan Jonigkeit, Chrissy Metz, Jaime Ray Newman<\/strong> and George Ferrier<\/strong>. After the show premiered<\/a> in July 2025, showrunner Rebecca Cutter<\/strong> and the cast addressed why The Hunting Wives<\/em>\u00a0didn\u2019t fully stick to the source material.<\/p>\n

\u201cRebecca and May Cobb have a really great relationship. They\u2019ve been talking through a lot, and May was kind of like, \u2018Go for it.\u2019 She was on set and was really elated to see her characters come to life and really loved the direction that Rebecca went in with the characters and the changes,\u201d \u00c5kerman exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> that same month. \u201cIt\u2019s fun to have some of the changes from the book so that people who are fans of the story can go along and be surprised as well. Hopefully it\u2019s not too far gone where it doesn\u2019t veer too far off the book so that they know the characters.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe Hunting Wives took a lot of inspiration from May Cobb\u2019s novel \u2014 but there were also some surprising changes. Netflix released the first season in July 2025, which followed Sophie (Brittany Snow) after she relocated from Boston to an East Texas town. Sophie ultimately found herself drawn to prominent socialite Margo (Malin \u00c5kerman) and [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u00c5kerman continued: \u201cI read the scripts before I read the book, so my bias might be the other way around. But again, I just feel like we get the essence of the characters. We get the world, and I hope that fans will like it who\u2019ve read the book.\u201d<\/p>\n

Snow has teased what she is hoping would get<\/a> explored for Sophie \u2014 especially after she killed someone before season 1 was over.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that that\u2019s something that she probably hasn\u2019t even wrestled with within herself, as far as why she\u2019s comfortable keeping herself in that box and also keeping secrets from herself. That\u2019s a dark night of the soul situation that we would only be seeing in season 2,\u201d Snow teased to Collider<\/em> in July 2025. \u201cI don\u2019t know how she\u2019s going to get there. Therapy? Maybe a really good therapist and a lot of time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Snow was curious how Sophie would dig herself out of the situation, adding, \u201cThe thing that I love about the character of Sophie, and I feel like what I loved about reading all eight scripts, was that Sophie ends up, at the end of episode 8, exactly where she was probably in the flashback before we even see her. She\u2019s had this full circle transformation of finding herself again, and yet here we are. Her true self is a mess.\u201d<\/p>\n

Season 2 kicks off with Sophie and Margo \u201con the outs.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut soon enough, old secrets and new foes force them back together,\u201d the official synopsis teased. \u201cAs they play their dangerous games the question arises. Are they the hunters or the hunted?\u201d<\/p>\n

Newman\u2019s character, Callie, is returning in season 2 as well after it was revealed that she killed Jill (Lowes) \u2014 who killed Starr (Metz).<\/p>\n

The Hunting Wives<\/em> wouldn\u2019t be what it is without Mulroney\u2019s Jed Banks running for office and causing chaos.<\/p>\n

Despite Sophie\u2019s marriage coming to an end, her estranged husband, Graham, is coming back in season 2.<\/p>\n

After The Hunting Wives introduced a secret affair between Margo and her friend Jill\u2019s 18-year-old son, Brad (Ferrier), who was in high school in the book, Netflix brought Ferrier back for season 2.<\/p>\n

\u00c5kerman, meanwhile, previously explained why it was important to age Brad up in the show.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat [underage] element wasn\u2019t thrown in there. That can be a really different conversation. So he is of age \u2014 technically \u2014 but he is very young,\u201d she told Us<\/em> in March 2025. \u201cHe\u2019s just of age. He also happens to be her best friend\u2019s son.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued: \u201cThat \u2014 for me \u2014 is more of the controversy. But I\u2019m not trying to tell a story through Margo where I hope people aspire to become her at all. As we continue to watch, you might change your mind on how you feel about her. But I love all of this stuff, and anything that\u2019s plot-driven and that moves the plot forward, I\u2019m happy to explore even it\u2019s gratuitous.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lowes knew going into the show that she wouldn\u2019t return as Jill.<\/p>\n

\u201cI knew when I auditioned that Jill was going to die, so I really leaned into it,\u201d Lowes told Us<\/em> in August 2025. \u201cI\u2019ve gotten to die a bunch of times, so I just was psyched. I was like, \u2018I [gotta] go big or go home.\u2019 I [got] to have one amazing season of Jill being as unhinged as I could do it and I loved it.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added: \u201cKnowing that Margo was [now] going to be the killer and Jill was going to die, I was like, \u2018OK, let\u2019s just focus on the TV show and get that done so that my brain doesn\u2019t get confused.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Sophie killed Margo\u2019s brother, Kyle (Milligan), at the end of the first season<\/a> \u2014 or did she?<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m so grateful to have worked on this project. Everyone was so amazing, lovely and wonderful to work with on a daily basis and whatever. So [I would love] to get a call [about season 2] \u2014 or maybe some spooky adventures with the ghost of Kyle,\u201d Milligan quipped to Us<\/em> in August 2025. \u201cI\u2019m sure they can get very, very creative. I am very much looking forward to hearing from the team and seeing what they [could] have in store ideas wise for Kyle.\u201d<\/p>\n
