Gwyneth Paltrow<\/strong><\/a> and Jacob Elordi<\/strong><\/a> engaged in a wide-ranging conversation for Variety<\/a> & CNN\u2019s Actors on Actors<\/em> series.<\/p>\n

The Marty Supreme<\/i> actress, 53, and the Frankenstein<\/i> star, 28, appeared on the Tuesday, December 9, episode and discussed the moment Paltrow briefly stepped away from acting.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou took a seven-year break,\u201d Elordi pointed out. \u201cWas that a feeling of \u2018I have to get away from this?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Paltrow replied, \u201cI felt a lot of loneliness when I was doing it in my 20s. I didn\u2019t know myself well yet, and I was traveling all the time. I needed to grow up and understand who I really was, and I got a lot of those answers through my family. Then I started a business.\u201d<\/p>\n

The season will kick off with a sit-down interview between Wicked: For Good\u2019s Ariana Grande and Jay Kelly\u2019s Adam Sandler. For the first time ever, the series will air on CNN under a new partnership between the network and the [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In 2008, Paltrow launched Goop as a weekly wellness and lifestyle newsletter from her kitchen. The company later evolved into a full lifestyle brand, e-commerce site and empire.<\/p>\n

While she appeared in various projects like Avengers: Endgame, Marty Supreme i<\/i>s her first major acting role in several years.<\/p>\n

\u201cMarty Supreme<\/i> came about in an incredible way because our boys were going off [to college] and I was left with this feeling of shock and disbelief,\u201d Paltrow \u2014 who shares Apple, 21, and Moses, 19, with ex-husband Chris Martin<\/strong> and is stepmom to husband Brad Falchuk<\/strong>\u2019s two children \u2014 shared. \u201cLike, \u2018Who am I?\u2019 Then I met Josh Safdie<\/strong> and I knew this would be worthwhile. This felt like the movies we used to make in the \u201890s.\u201d<\/p>\n

Paltrow and Elordi sat down for Actors on Actors<\/em> during promotion for their respective new films, Marty Supreme<\/em><\/a> \u2014 which will be in theaters on Christmas Day \u2014 and Frankenstein<\/em><\/a> \u2014 which was released in October.<\/p>\n

In a Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a> interview published on Wednesday, December 3, Paltrow further explained why she chose to take on her role in Marty Supreme<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I\u2019m being completely honest, it\u2019s not that the acting bug had bit,\u201d she shared. \u201cMy children, all four of them, had left \u2014 Brad and I each have girls and boys the same age, and when I knew the boys were leaving for college, I started to have a real panic around my purpose and where I\u2019m supposed to orient myself: Where do I want to live? Who am I? It was pretty profound.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued: \u201cAt the same time, [director] Josh Safdie asked me to be in this movie. I wasn\u2019t familiar with his work, but my brother, Jake<\/strong>, who\u2019s a filmmaker, said to me, \u2018You are doing this.\u2019 He was absolutely emphatic about it. Then I found out it was in New York City, and I thought this could be a really interesting thing to do during this transition. I want to be close to the boys, I\u2019ll be closer to the girls.\u201d<\/p>\n

After Paltrow signed on to the film, she had some doubts about her return to acting.<\/p>\n

\u201cI said yes, and then I was like, \u2018Oh f***, do I remember how to do this?\u2019 It had been seven years,\u201d she recalled. \u201cBut I didn\u2019t get the bug back until I was on set doing the hair-and-makeup test. That\u2019s when I was like, \u2018Oh, what is this weird feeling I\u2019m having? Oh, my God, this is excitement. I\u2019m actually really excited to be here.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
