This is a joke.<span class=\"image-caption-credit\"> (Image Credit: CBS)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-not-everyone-enjoyed-prince-harry-s-cameo-on-the-late-show\">Not everyone enjoyed Prince Harry\u2019s cameo on \u2018The Late Show\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>On Wednesday, December 3, Prince Harry appeared in a guest spot on <em>The Late Show with Stephen Colbert<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Colbert had just rattled off a list of Hallmark (and Hallmark-adjacent) films that connected Christmas and fictional royalty, usually as an American encounters a European royal by chance and falls in love.<\/p>\n<p>Harry pretended to have stumbled into the studio while looking to audition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, you Americans are obsessed with Christmas movies and you\u2019re clearly obsessed with royalty, so why not?\u201d he quipped during the scripted moment.<\/p>\n<p>After Colbert feigned to disagree, Harry noted: \u201cI heard you elected a king.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Will Prince Harry Ever Get To Be A Hallmark Christmas Movie Prince?\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/plsvrxGZnyA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Harry\u2019s joke about America having \u201celected a king\u201d was a reference to Donald Trump, whose bizarre behavior and authoritarian rule have both invited comparisons to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/commentisfree\/2020\/nov\/17\/donald-trump-king-george-iii-sequel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the madness of King George<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>(George III is Harry\u2019s grandfather times six <em>and <\/em>times five, because European royalty really is <em>like that<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p>For the record, the prince also took a jab at Paramount for having paid an 8-figure \u201csettlement,\u201d which critics have understandably characterized as a bribe, to appease Trump.<\/p>\n<p>This is the same company that canceled <em>The Late Show<\/em>, which just about everyone \u2014 including Trump \u2014 believes was done to cater to his wishes. <\/p>\n<p>As we reported last week, most American viewers \u2014 whether they were in the audience or on social media \u2014 enjoyed Harry\u2019s royal cameo. So while it\u2019s not the same as the Prime Minister dissing another head of state, it\u2019s perhaps more comparable to if a First Lady were trash-talking a world leader.<\/p>\n<p>Well, no. That would be if Charles were roasting Trump on his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehollywoodgossip.com\/2025\/10\/stephen-colbert-donald-trump-cognitive-decline\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">obvious cognitive decline<\/a> or his MRI boasts or how he keeps harming the economy for no reason. This is more like if, what, <em>Tiffany<\/em> Trump made a scripted joke about Keir Starmer.<\/p>\n<p>The key difference is that no one \u2014 least of all her father \u2014 cares what Tiffany says or does. Some didn\u2019t even do that.<\/p>\n<p>Misinformation also spread on social media, as it tends to do. Some believed that Harry had sat down for an interview in which he\u2019d weighed in on politics. He\u2019s said as much.<\/p>\n<p>Obviously, Trump is a notorious bobblehead \u2014 someone who nods along with the opinions of whoever he last hung out with. So if a Harry-hating royalist spoke pleasantly to him for long enough, he\u2019d likely change his mind. <\/p>\n<p>Realistically, the people calling for Harry to lose his titles probably aren\u2019t truly concerned about diplomatic matters. These are Brits who loathe Harry for marrying <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehollywoodgossip.com\/2025\/11\/meghan-markle-alleged-panic-kris-jenner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Meghan Markle<\/a> and for undermining the British monarchy.<\/p>\n<p>But, his appearance on Colbert gave American viewers one more reason to appreciate him. And it gave royalists their latest ammo to fire at him.<\/p>\n<p>From the moment that he was born, no one has been \u201cnormal\u201d about Harry. A couple of decades ago, he was a sex symbol. Now, his home country has all but declared him anathema.
