Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones<\/strong> suffered an Achilles injury and was ruled out for the remainder of the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.<\/p>\n Late in the first quarter of the Sunday, December 7, matchup, Jones dropped back to pass and, as he delivered the throw, fell straight to the field and immediately grabbed his right ankle.<\/p>\n Frustrations from the non-contact injury boiled over as the medical staff made their way to Jones. The quarterback took off his helmet and slammed it into the grass before he was helped to his feet and taken to the medical tent.<\/p>\n Soon after, he went to the locker room.<\/p>\n Rookie Riley Leonard<\/strong>, out of Notre Dame, replaced Jones under center after the injury.<\/p>\n The Colts drafted Leonard in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.<\/p>\n Jones has been playing with a fractured fibula the last few weeks, which limited his mobility on the field during the Colts\u2019 last two losses against the Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans.<\/p>\n He didn\u2019t miss any games with that initial injury, but Leonard shared a short message he got from Jones when he first went down.<\/p>\n \u201cHe got the MRI and I\u2019m, of course, very curious,\u201d Leonard said, per Stephen Holder of ESPN<\/em>. \u201cI just wanted to know as soon as possible. I called some [team staffers], and they had really long explanations. And then [Jones] just texted me, \u2018I\u2019ll be good.\u2019 That\u2019s it. Three words. \u2018I\u2019ll be good.\u2019 I said, \u2018All right.\u2019 He\u2019s a tough guy.\u201d<\/p>\n Jones also recently revealed that he has been wearing a special 3D-printed pad on his leg. The leg protector was designed by Clark Bulleit <\/strong>and Kevin Gehsmann<\/strong>, Jones\u2019 former classmates at Duke University.<\/p>\n \u201cLucky to have smart friends who are really close friends,\u201d Jones told the Associated Press on Wednesday. \u201cIt\u2019s pretty low profile and fits to my leg pretty well. I didn\u2019t really notice it Sunday.\u201d<\/p>\n Bulleit and Gehsmann played with Jones on the Duke football team in 2018. They\u2019ve since founded a company called Protect3D, which provides specialty protective equipment to athletes.<\/p>\n \u201cMy buddy Kevin actually delivered it to me in Kansas City,\u201d Jones said. \u201cHe flew [in] and came to the game, I got to see him afterward.\u201d<\/p>\n
