John Mayer<\/strong><\/a> is coping with the loss of his dog, Moose, after 14 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe said goodbye to Moose yesterday,\u201d Mayer, 48, wrote via Instagram on Saturday, December 6. \u201cHe came into my life when I needed pure love, and that\u2019s what he gave me for 14 years.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cWe traded on that love, as well as something else I now realize was important: routine. For a guy like me who left home at 19 and had never lived the same day twice, our routine brought real comfort and stability. When dinner is always at 8, and the afternoon walks are at 4:30, those kinds of things can heal your heart. And they did, time and time again.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cYour Body is a Wonderland\u201d singer also shared a series of photos featuring the late pup, lovingly chronicling the pair\u2019s relationship that spanned more than a decade.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tTaylor Swift is notorious for dropping hints about her famous exes in the lines of her songs \u2014 and John Mayer easily picked up on the clues. The songwriters were linked in 2009 and 2010 after collaborating on Mayer\u2019s single \u201cHalf of My Heart.\u201d At the time, Swift told Elle that she\u2019d \u201cbeen such a [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cToday my heart is so heavy and sore, but there\u2019s more love in my life than there has ever been, and that\u2019s because Moose helped lead me to it,\u201d he added in the caption. \u201cIt can\u2019t be long before I unearth an old tennis ball \u2013 there must be a hundred out there under sticks and brush that were too hard to fish out \u2013 and when I do, I\u2019ll give it a toss, and think about the dog I had when I was becoming a man, and how he was such a good dog, and that there isn\u2019t ever enough time. But there\u2019s enough love. There\u2019s more than enough.\u201d<\/p>\n

The carousel of images begins with a recent photo of Moose, then transitions to a snap of the dog as a puppy. Mayer also included several photos featuring the singer and Moose together, including a pic showing a then-long-haired Mayer embracing the young dog, and a second, more recent shot that shows the pair playing with a tennis ball.<\/p>\n

Mayer\u2019s fans may recall that Moose appeared on the cover of the singer-songwriter\u2019s sixth studio album, 2013\u2019s Paradise Valley<\/em>. The cover of the record showed Mayer, decked out in a hat and long coat, and Moose standing in the middle of a field.<\/p>\n

In a 2017 interview with Bobby Bones<\/strong><\/a>, Mayer revealed he\u2019d found himself at a bit of a crossroads after finding out his dog didn\u2019t exactly enjoy live music.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy dog does not stay in Montana. This is what happened. I got a dog; I wanted to have a dog on the road. Road dog. A dear friend of mine happens to be an incredible dog trainer,\u201d he said at the time, acknowledging that it\u2019s difficult to own a dog when you\u2019re always touring. \u201cShe took my dog. Trained my dog. Turned him into a perfect beast.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued at the time, \u201cAnd then I was like, okay taking my dog on the road. Dog hates music. Hates music. He thinks it\u2019s like thunder. So he\u2019s trembling in the dressing room. First night \u2014 I think Red Rocks was the first place we were like, \u2018Okay, well I got a dog let\u2019s do this.\u2019 Cowering in the corner.\u201d<\/p>\n

The guitarist added that Moose\u2019s aversion to music appeared to extend to just playing guitar around at home.<\/p>\n
