Danielle Spencer felt guilty when she split from Russell Crowe<\/p>\n
The 56-year-old singer-and-actress split from the Gladiator star – with whom she has sons Charles, 22, and 19-year-old Tennyson – in 2012 after 15 years together and while she felt their separation was the right thing to do, she was still conflicted at the idea of “fracturing the family”.<\/p>\n
Speaking on the Something To Talk About podcast, she said: “It’s really sad breaking up with somebody that you’ve known for so long, that you’ve had children with.<\/p>\n
“Me kind of breaking up the family \u2013 and it felt very much like I was driving that \u2013 so I had to deal with my almost sense of guilt that I was fracturing the family, but obviously I did it for a number of reasons and I wouldn’t have done it if I didn’t think it needed to happen.”<\/p>\n
While Danielle and Russell are on good terms now, she admitted there were some “difficult” moments between them while learning to navigate co-parenting their sons.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: “There were days and moments where obviously things were not fine, were tense, we were unhappy and it’s sad.”<\/p>\n
\nIn September, it was revealed Danielle and Russell will reunite on stage for the 61-year-old actor’s Indoor Garden Party in New South Wales, Australia, on 20 December.<\/p>\n
\nAnd the actress admitted the performance will be a “lovely full circle moment”.<\/p>\n
\nShe told news.com.au: “Russell and I connected through music in the early days of knowing each other.<\/p>\n
\n“We’ve performed together countless times over the years. It seemed like a lovely full circle moment.”<\/p>\n
\nThe Nice Guys actor was grateful his ex-wife agreed to take part.<\/p>\n
\nSpeaking on The Kyle and Jackie O Show, he said: “My former paramour, my ex-wife, Danielle Spencer, she’s opening the show for us.”<\/p>\n
\nWhen the hosts praised the former couple for staying on good terms, Russell replied: <\/p>\n
\nKyle went on to commend the Aussie actor for his ability to remain on good terms with his ex. “Yeah everybody’s cool. The coolest about that is my kids. They’re like, ‘Dad, that’s really excellent’.”<\/p>\n
