Antonio Brown<\/strong><\/a> is citing Florida\u2019s controversial \u201cStand Your Ground\u201d law in an attempt to dismiss the second-degree murder charge against him in Miami.<\/p>\n

\u201cBrown\u2019s use of force on May 16, 2025, was fully justified,\u201d a Monday, December 1, motion filed by Brown\u2019s lawyer, Mark Eiglarsh<\/strong>, read in part, per ESPN<\/a><\/em>. \u201cBrown reasonably believed that the alleged victim intended to cause him serious harm.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Stand Your Ground law took effect in Florida in 2005 and removes \u201cthe duty to retreat\u201d before using \u201cdeadly force in certain circumstances.\u201d Since 2005, nearly 30 states have followed Florida\u2019s lead and implemented their own Stand Your Ground laws.<\/p>\n

Brown\u2019s motion stems from an incident outside a celebrity boxing match in Miami, Florida, after which Brown allegedly stole a security guard\u2019s gun and used it to allegedly try and kill Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tFormer NFL star Antonio Brown will head back to Miami after waiving his extradition on an attempted murder charge, officials said on Friday, November 7. Brown, 37, was apprehended by U.S. Marshals after he was charged with one count of attempted second-degree murder with a deadly weapon. The former wide receiver allegedly tried to shoot [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

According to ESPN<\/em>, Nantambu\u2019s attorney, Richard Cooper<\/strong>, labeled Brown\u2019s newest defense motion \u201ca farcical reimagining\u201d of the event.<\/p>\n

After the May incident<\/a>, Brown spent six months in the United Arab Emirates, allegedly trying to evade U.S. authorities. He was then extradited from Dubai to New Jersey in November before he was ultimately sent to Miami to face his charge.<\/p>\n

In a video of the incident that surfaced earlier this year, Brown can be seen fighting with several people outside the event. According to an arrest warrant issued after the incident, Brown stated at the time that a security guard stepped in to break up the fight when Brown allegedly took his gun.<\/p>\n

Witnesses say Brown was the one who allegedly fired the shots that are heard off camera in the video. Two shell casings were found at the scene, but Brown was reportedly unarmed when police detained him.<\/p>\n

Brown\u2019s motion from this week accuses Nantambu of previous violence against him, including an alleged jewelry theft. According to the motion, Nantambu spent 30 days in jail because of that incident.<\/p>\n

The motion also describes the May event, claiming Brown was trying to get to his car after Nantambu attacked him.<\/p>\n

Police say Brown punched Nantambu in the face and when Nantambu walked away, Brown \u201cchases him down and shoots him at point blank range.\u201d<\/p>\n

The motion describes the event differently, arguing that Brown \u201creasonably feared\u201d for his safety and said Nantambu made an \u201caggressive movement\u201d towards Brown prior to the incident.<\/p>\n

The Netflix documentary, which premiered in October 2025, chronicles the events leading up to the killing of Ajike \u201cAJ\u201d Owens. The Perfect Neighbor uses body cam footage and audio from numerous 911 calls [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cIn that moment, Brown again reasonably feared death or great bodily harm,\u201d the motion read, adding that Brown fired two \u201cwarning shots\u201d that were aimed away from Nantambu.<\/p>\n
