The 41-year-old actress initially delayed revealing the four-year-old tot’s unique name to their family because Scarlett knew they would question it.<\/p>\n
Appearing on Thursday morning’s (04.12.25) episode of NBC’s Today with Jenna and Friends, she told co-host Jenna Bush Hager: “When we named our son Cosmo, I actually didn\u2019t tell anybody for that very reason. <\/p>\n
“I didn\u2019t want any of the weird faces. You know, when you tell someone they go like this, \u2018Oh, that\u2019s different.’ You know when they do that, and you\u2019re like, \u2018What\u2019s happening? You don\u2019t like it?\u2019”<\/p>\n
However, the Black Widow star’s 74-year-old mom, actress Melanie Sloan, adored the name Cosmo because it reminded her of the boy she had crushed on in high school.<\/p>\n
\nScarlett – who also had a daughter called Rose, 11, with her 43-year-old ex-husband, journalist Romain Dauriac – continued: “My mom loved it, which was great. It was like, ‘Phew.’ She was like, \u2018My third-grade crush was Cosmo.’ It had a great meaning for her.”<\/p>\n
\nBut Colin’s mom, Kerry Kelly, had the opposite reaction.<\/p>\n
\nScarlett – who married the Saturday Night Live cast member in an intimate ceremony held at her $4 million home in Palisades, New York, in 2020 – recalled: “My mother-in-law was like, a few days after she goes, \u2018Cosimo is a name I can find. That\u2019s a recognisable name.'”<\/p>\n
\nJenna, 44, went on to reveal that her mom, former First Lady Laura Bush, 79, did not like how people in Texas, the Bush’s home state, pronounced her 12-year-old granddaughter Mila’s name as it is spelled, instead of how it is pronounced – M-E-L-A.<\/p>\n
\nJenna – who also has daughter Poppy, 10 and son Hal, six, with her 47-year-old husband, Henry Chase Hager – said: “We named our eldest daughter Mila – M-I-L-A, which is a perfectly popular name.<\/p>\n
\n“But afterwards, my mom called, and she’s like, ‘Now in Texas, they’re calling her Mila, the way you spelled it – M-I-L-A, they’re saying Mila.’<\/p>\n
\n“I think she’s like, ‘You know, Lela is L-E-L-A.’ Maybe you can change it to M-E-L-A.’<\/p>\n
\n“I’m like, ‘You want me to change the spelling of my child’s name because in Texas, they’re mispronouncing her name as Mila?'”<\/p>\n
