Blake Lively<\/strong><\/a> claimed Colleen Hoover<\/strong> was \u201creluctant\u201d to hire a man to direct the film adaptation of It Ends With Us<\/em>,<\/a> before eventually agreeing to let Justin Baldoni<\/a><\/strong> take the helm.<\/p>\n

In documents seen by Us Weekly<\/em> on Thursday, December 4, Lively, 38, and her legal team argued that Hoover, 45, originally planned for a woman to direct the movie.<\/p>\n

As part of their argument that Baldoni, 41, and his production company Wayfarer \u201ccurated a misleading feminist brand,\u201d Lively\u2019s legal team alleged that, \u201cHoover was reluctant to option the Film to a man, but agreed to sell the rights to Wayfarer.\u201d<\/p>\n

The documents also claimed that before Baldoni was on board, \u201cHoover explicitly requested that a woman direct the Film.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAuthor Colleen Hoover is seemingly removing herself from the narrative of Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni\u2018s legal drama. Fans noticed that Hoover\u2019s Instagram account is no longer active amid daily developments in the actors\u2019 lawsuits against each other. The trouble began when Lively, 37, and Baldoni, 40, came together to adapt Hoover\u2019s book It Ends [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Us Weekly<\/em> has reached out to Baldoni, Lively and Hoover\u2019s representatives for comment.<\/p>\n

The legal back-and-forth<\/a> between Lively and Baldoni began in December 2024, when Lively sued Baldoni for sexual harassment. At the time, she claimed his alleged behavior on set of the film caused her \u201csevere emotional distress.\u201d<\/p>\n

In response, Baldoni\u2019s lawyer claimed that the accusations were \u201ccompletely false, outrageous and intentionally salacious\u201d and further alleged that Lively filed the suit to \u201cfix her negative reputation\u201d and \u201crehash a narrative\u201d about the film\u2019s production. Baldoni went on to file his own lawsuit against Lively in January, which was later dismissed in June.<\/p>\n

A trial is tentatively scheduled to begin in March 2026.<\/p>\n

Hoover recently broke her silence<\/a> on the legal drama between the former It Ends With Us<\/em> costars in an interview with Elle.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cIt feels like a circus,\u201d Hoover told Elle<\/em> in an interview published on November 20. \u201cWhen there are real people involved, with real feelings and emotions.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hoover, who was preparing to give a deposition within a few weeks at the time that the interview was conducted, also called the drama \u201csad.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added that she felt the legal issues had overshadowed the story\u2019s core theme of domestic violence and female empowerment, which was inspired by a real-life story close to her heart.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe book was inspired by [my mother\u2019s] story, and now it gives us PTSD to think about it,\u201d Hoover said. \u201cI feel awful because I almost feel like she\u2019s gone through more with the aftermath of this film, more pain than she went through with my dad, just seeing the ugliness of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hoover continued: \u201cI can\u2019t even recommend it anymore. I feel like [the lawsuit] has overshadowed it. I\u2019m almost embarrassed to say I wrote it. When people ask what I do, I\u2019m just like, \u2018I\u2019m a writer. Please don\u2019t ask me what I wrote.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
