A judge has dismissed the lawsuit filed against Meta by the attorney general of Washington, DC, which alleged Meta\u2019s \u201clax\u201d privacy policies led to the Cambridge Analytica scandal, as reported earlier by The New York Times<\/em><\/a>. In a ruling on Thursday<\/a>, Superior Court Judge Maurice A. Ross found that \u201cFacebook did not materially mislead consumers as to their response to Cambridge Analytica.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n In this ruling, however, Judge Ross argues that Meta took \u201ca number of enforcement actions\u201d against the third-party app in question, ordered it to delete the data it had on users, and started an investigation. \u201cWhile the District may disagree with Facebook\u2019s approach to the situation, there is no legal basis that required Facebook to act differently,\u201d the ruling reads. \u201cThe actions that Facebook took were consistent with its stated policies.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cWe respectfully disagree with the Court\u2019s decision and are considering all of our options,\u201d Gabriel Shoglow-Rubenstein, the press secretary for DC\u2019s office of the attorney general, says in a statement to The Verge<\/em>. Meta declined to comment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
