Sylvester Stallone was injured by Dolph Lundgren<\/p>\n
The 68-year-old actor portrayed villain Ivan Drago in Rocky IV and he left his co-star, who played the titular character, seriously injured following a fight scene, but had no idea until some time afterwards.<\/p>\n
Speaking to Fox News, Dolph said: “I didn\u2019t know it happened, we were both getting hit in that fight.<\/p>\n
“We shot for two weeks in Vancouver, and I got back to L.A.The producer called and said, \u2018Hey, Dolph, you got two weeks off.\u2019 I said, \u2018That\u2019s great, what\u2019s going on?\u2019 \u2018Sly\u2019s in the hospital.\u2019 I found out that way.<\/p>\n
“I did feel a little guilty. You know, he hit me too. He was the boss, I did what he told me, which was good. Go really hard with the body, you know those Russian uppercuts. <\/p>\n
\n“I don\u2019t know if it was my body or exhaustion or my punches, I don\u2019t know, but he did get hurt. I\u2019m sorry about that.”<\/p>\n
\nStallone, now 79, previously recalled how he had to be flown from Canada to an intensive care unit in a California hospital after being “pulverised” during the fight scene.<\/p>\n
\nSpeaking in 2021 documentary The Making of Rocky vs. Drago, he said: “I didn’t feel it in the moment but later that night my heart started to swell.<\/p>\n
\n “My blood pressure went up to 260 and I was going to be talking to angels, next thing I know I’m on this emergency, low-altitude flight. I’m in intensive care surrounded by nuns and then after that, I had to go back and finish the fight.”<\/p>\n
\nAnd the moment where the actor got injured for real featured in the finished movie.<\/p>\n
\nStallone said in the documentary: “How could you take that out?” <\/p>\n
\nMeanwhile, Dolph previously admitted there was “tension” between himself and the late Carl Weathers on the set of the movie.<\/p>\n
\nSpeaking to Screen Rant, Dolph said: “When I first met him, we were shooting the fight of Apollo versus Drago in Las Vegas, and Carl showed up two days before.<\/p>\n
\n“I was there to rehearse it with him, and he didn’t know me. He just saw this big fricking blonde guy who looks dangerous. He heard the guy’s a karate champion, and he’s never acted before. I think Carl got a little bit like, ‘Am I really…? Should I really do this? Am I going to survive this fight?’<\/p>\n
\n“I was in character a lot around the ring, so I was always Drago. I was walking around like him. In the beginning, we didn’t talk much. There was a little bit of tension there, and then of course in the fight, I ended up beating him up pretty badly. I didn’t really get to know him that well.”<\/p>\n
\nDolph revealed that he later became friendlier with Weathers \u2013 who died at the age of 76 in February 2024.<\/p>\n
\nHe added: “But later at the premiere of the movie and then later, professionally, I met him many times… We did a couple of Comic-Cons together, and he turned out to be a really nice guy who was very friendly.<\/p>\n
\n“But I think he was always a little bit sore about what happened in ‘Rocky’ I through IV. I didn’t write the script.”<\/p>\n
